Hi I am suffering from painful restless legs that wake me up every couple of hours. My doc seems to think it’s because of a Vit b12 de-efficiency,has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Janeymoon
Welcome to the forum. There was a posting on here a couple of years ago about B12 and RLS and the consensus of opinion was that it did not work for RLS. Are you taking B12 now and is it helping you?

Hello!
My doctor said exactly the same, based on my vegetarian diet. I assured him that i have had restless legs all my life, and i haven't been vegetarian (Or anaemic!) all my life.
B12 Deficiency can contribute to RLS as low levels cause central nervous system damage, however, it would have to be a moderate deficiency to cause this. Iron deficiencies can also contribute, as iron is used in the production of dopamine: Low dopamine is one of the main causes of RLS!
My blood results came back as slightly low B12, Normal iron and folic. I take one B-complex tablet a day and i feel like they have made no difference. Its took several months to be referred to a neurologist and i'm now on ropinirole.
I'd say that if you have developed worsening RLS not based on any dietary changes, then the bloods should come back normal.
the hospital checked my b12 it was ok still have rls also iron
Thanks for the replies.I had a blood test and my Vit12 was very low and the doc said that this may be causing my leg problems (since xmas) but after 5 injections it has gotten worse, just waiting on a blood test follow up.
Worse than the jumpiness is the pain.does anyone else experience the sharp pains in different leg areas during the night or when stationary?
I get the sharp pains if i dont allow my self to move/dont stand up!
I suffer very low vitamin B12 so I must get shots from my doctor since 2013. It does help me sleep. It does make a great difference in my RLS. I have to melt the tablets under my tongue in addition to taking the vitamin B12 shots. I've been on the high end of normal for a while now. The difference is day to night in sleep and relaxation.
