raghunath.de/ just found this, another doctor claiming to cure us with operations !!
"cure ?": raghunath.de... - Restless Legs Syn...
"cure ?"
Is there an English-language version of his findings?
it says on the link that you can translate it
Also, jean and a few other, made comment on a Forbes discussion about a similar doctor saying he could cure rls, but hes now deleted some of his comments, we were looking at it this morning,
Oh, I remember the one that we posted on in Forbes, and Jean's post! Trying to drum up business with his venous surgery, and that has nothing to with anything neurological and there are no studies on that. German or English, it is the same crap from that guy. LOTS of us know him from his comments on a good Forbes article about RLS. That was the reporter who used to be skeptical about RLS, but the Afghan war vet from the US convinced him otherwise when he interviewed him. Totally turned that reporter around, and we got lots of good feedback from him. Any doctor who would advertise his business in the comments of an article is not worth even thinking about, in my humble opinion. And, I know what other comments were made there, and that doctor got "massacred". That is as bad as advertising in a support group. That is really bad form.
why bring that up about advertising in a group ?? is it really relevant here ? my post is about this doctor !!
wow thanks Tllula, very interesting what they get up to, i personally wouldnt put myself through this, unless i spoke to lots of people that had this done with a lot of success, but interesting never theless
Everything seems to be in German and I can't find anything on Google about him in English. Tallula - do you speak German? If so, can you tell us what he says (in a nutshell!).
Many thanks
Rosie

topic: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) Dear Sir or Madam, Please allow me the following comment on the TV report: - restricted nerves can amplify pain and symptoms in RLS - restricted nerves can be treated using microsurgery - surgery can in selected patients pain and intensity of RLS diminish (see also poster Pain Congress 2011) -> View PDF - ie patients with no evidence of treatable nervous constrictions are found, can not be surgically be treated - about 20-30% of the patients studied are not suitable for surgery - even when the selected patient occurs in about 15-20% after surgery no significant improvement is - the underlying disease (RLS) remains - is accordingly the need for drug therapy - a reduction of medication can often be achieved - the complete discontinuation of the medication remains the exception - the treatment of young people remains the exception INFO for statutory health insurance: - To find out if someone is suitable for the operating room, an approximately . 90 minute examination with sensitivity testing and review - For this study, an invoice is created - the cost of the investigation are legally insured limited to about 150-200, - euro - If there is a steady nerve surgery for narrowing the cost so far of carried the health insurance
thats copying it, is that ok ?
Restless legs syndrome (RLS ) is a neurological disorder to be diagnosed clinically . It is characterized by at rest
and mainly occur at night urge to move and unpleasant sensations . This severe pain can occur .
Preparations for dopamine neuromodulation at the spinal level, but also opioids are used for drug therapy.
A disinhibition of spinal reflexes is vermutet1 .
Accordingly, an influence of the peripheral nervous system , in addition to main causes are conceivable. This takes place in the
Pain with repeated application and peripheral nerve blocks is modified for peripheral nerve compression
in the lower limb in some cases beschrieben2 , 3
In this study, the effect of surgical relief compressed , peripheral nerves in both lower extremities on
the severity of restless legs syndrome and pain intensity described .
method
In the period from 06/08 to 06/ 11 to 70 were combined nerve compression decompression of lower extremity
of 50 patients (20 on both sides , 30 unilateral) performed. Of the bilaterally operated patients had n = 16 ( 8w , 8m ) a follow-up of
at least 4 months to 3 years ( ø 16.7 months ) .
All 16 patients fulfilled the four essential criteria for RLS . The diagnosis was made neurologically, and the patient
were under medication in the context of conservative therapy .
By localization of complaints assignment to supply areas of peripheral nerves , local investigation of the associated
Nerves on tenderness , Tinel's sign and measurement of contact thresholds for 1 - and 2 - points with the pressurespecified
- sensory device ( PSSD , SMS International, Baltimore, USA ), the combined nerve compression
diagnosed.
It was the operative relief of the identified each as a compressed nerve . The nerves were relieved peroneal artery
with terminal branches ( in 14 patients ) , with tibial and plantar calcaneal terminal branches in the tarsal tunnel (12 ) , tibialis on hiatus
M. solei ( 3) , N. Saphenous / femoral artery in the adductor canal ( 3) , N. lateral femoral cutaneous nerve ( 3) , Nn . plantar digital comm .
between the metatarsal heads (3).
Preoperative and postoperative pain intensity and character was with the visual analogue scale or numerical rating scale
( VAS / NRS ) and the Pain detect arc ( Pfizer ) is determined . Assess the severity of RLS with the IRLS score. the
Drug use was detected, and the sensitivity measured with the PSSD .
outcome
The average severity determined using the IRLS score
preoperatively was 32.8 (11x very heavy RLS > 31 , 5x
severe RLS > 21-30) . Postoperatively, the score was in the
Average of 14.1 . It came in three cases no
Improvement.
The VAS pain intensity decreased from 7.68 to 3.09 ø . 13 patients
able to reduce the medication , 7 in
Range of 75 to 100% dose reduction. a patient
postoperatively was free of drugs. 14 patients
showed improved sensitivity.
Detect the Pain scores decreased from 17.6 to 8.9 ø .
conclusion
? The influence of the peripheral nerves to the
Severity of RLS is greater than previously
accepted
? Nerve compression in the lower limb
can in a subset of RLS patients
worsen the symptoms
? Identified nerve compression can
be treated using microsurgery
? The operation leads to a significant reduction
the pain intensity of RLS severity
and drugs consumption.

found a PDF file and got a friend to translate it for me, same doctor, if im reading it right, it may ease any constricted nerve, but you will still need meds, !!! so whats the point ??
Beware, and do your research first. There is no independent study that verifies that this would work, so again, all theory. The best the experts can say on this that know about RLS and have studied the heck out of it, is that it "can't hurt". But it could be very unnecessary surgery. For neuropathy or vascular disorders ,it can help, but those are called "RLS Mimics" in Clinical Management of RLS, 2nd edition, page 31, 32, table 32T (RLS Mimics)
i did say i just put it on to get people's opinion's. No way would i put myself through this
As soon as I read "cure" I tend to loose interest, I have found it to denote a lack of understanding.........and usually a big bill....... Me a cynic , damn right!
But of course I did read it, has he written a scientific paper on his findings so that he may be judged by his equals?
Hi, Miggles, im not saying i believe it, i just put it on to show people, and get their opinions
I am one who also immediately tunes out when the word cure is used. "Treatment" is what we are talking about, not curing , so that might be a better choice. There is no cure, and that word is only used by professionals that do not get it, or by people trying to sell a magic cure that no one else has ever discovered. lol All we can do is treat RLS,. we cannot cure it. It would also, help, if when you post something like this if you tell us what you think about it when you first post it, so we know what we are dealing with. time saver
I chose not to influence people with MY opinion
i think we should ALL make our own informed opinion
it's not !! we found it on the internet this morning !!
I did not ever say it was copied from anywhere else. You asked if it was ok and I answered you. Done here.
i was asking admin as they had both responded to my post
Fair enuf, havin read lots of your posts I would never think that you would.
One day there may be a cure posted, we don't want to miss it.....hey.
certainly not, Miggles
@tallula.
Thank you for posting about this doctor's theory.
I, for one, understand you were not recommending or supporting his claims. The clue, for anyone who missed it, is in the exclamation marks.
Sadly, some doctors and scientists let the need to publish outweigh logic and good practice.
totally agree with you , thanks
Tallula, thank you for your information, I appreciate your efforts to let us know what's new on RLS. We all can form our own opinion about this. Again, thank you and hold on!!
Many thanks Tallula, it is always interesting to read about 'theories' or 'cures' or 'new studies'. Information is never dangerous, if taken in context. Opinions are like backsides everyone has one. But knowledge is always powerful. If that knowledge is used with a modicum of intelligence and common sense I can see no danger in sharing it.
(Sleepy but eyes wide open. )
He's talking about releasing nerves that are constricted. If he does
surgery to release the nerves, then people get some kind of relief.
I suppose that people use the name rls for any kind of pain, uncomfortable
sensation. I didn't know what the definition of rls was until people on this
forum gave me the specifics.. the symptoms.
