I have fibromyalgia, chronic pain, RLS and take tramadol, pregavalin, co-codamol. Can HRT, Prozac, cause not sleeping in the night again?

Hello there. Sorry to hear you're having trouble sleeping. Yes, I think prozac is considered a "day" med and should be taken as early in the day as possible because it has been known to interfere with sleep. Of course, like everything else, reactions vary from person to person. Some people feel lethargic and have to take it at night. Good luck!

Prozac, being a anti-depressant can for many cause RLS to worsen. I havent heard of HRT causing RLS to worsen, but as i am not on HRT, i can only guess. Its that what is happening...?? your RLS is keeping you awake. ??

Thank you I was suspecting this but I was taking citalopram before and that was also no good. I ended up in hospital with delirium, a combination of medication and bladder infection. My GP does not want me to reduce Prozac and I have already but still I'm not sleeping at all! I was just beginning to sleep well and feel a little normal. So I am changing it to take half of the dose but in the morning and only pragavalin 50 mg and neupro 3 mg at night. This is horrible, is not as if I can share how it really is. It is too much to take on. I looked after my very sick daughter for a very long time and she died. Now this as well!

Are you taking a anti-depressant because of depression, i am asking as doctors do use anti-d's for other ailments. Most antidepressants can make RLS worse. Only one that i know of that seems to be RLS friendly is one called Wellbutrin. Have a look at the treatment page of this website, if you havent already... rlshelp.org it has a list of medications to avoid, which can make things worse...

I know its horrible, we all know how it is on this forum.

I am sorry to hear of your daughter.

Thank you ookla and elisse. Yes I do take P for depression. I am seeing the rheumatologist next week. I have not found him helpful or supportive. I have been referred to a pain clinic and I have an appointment at the end of June. So I will look into asking for a different antidepressant. Could it also be that the pregavalin is not so good? I am getting used ti it and find it helpful. After loosing muscle over many years I have the opposite now and I don't do workout. The muscles in my lower arms feel very hard and you can see the muscle bulging out! Could this be the Neupro? Thanks again.

I do not have all your symptoms, but I do have a girlfriend who does and is having a difficult time. I just wanted to share that I was very excited to try Neupro when I was given the chance. On the lowest dosage, I could not sleep and had to rock all night long because of RLS. I also had trouble the next day. There is one line on both sides of the information sheet, which states that it could make symptoms worse. For me, it did. This probably does not apply to you, Misplemas, but I wanted the word out there that Nepro doesn't work well on some people, which we RLS sufferers know--medications work differently on people.
