Hey there! I am on quit day number 5 and I've noticed over the last couple of days that I have started yawning a lot- it feels like most of the time! Not only has it become a bit annoying now I have noticed it but I feel like I am being rude when I am with company. Is this normal?

Keep yawning- what's that all about?
Hi Lenne,
Yawning is a common side effect when stopping smoking, mainly due to your body's metabolism adjusting to it's normal levels because of recieving less or no more nicotine. It is only temporary and will soon stop as your own body's energy levels return to normal.
It's also usually often a sign of stress, tiredness or boredom; all of which can be affected due to the fact that you have stopped smoking.
Try drinking plenty of water and maybe eat more fruit to raise your sugar levels. It is probably best to avoid sugary and processed foods.
If you are feeling tired, take a break from whatever it is that you are doing - maybe go for a brisk walk if possible - if not try an energising breathing exercise.
If you are in company when yawning, watch out as it's usually contagious!
Hehe thanks EmJay! I've got myself some grapes, and lots of bottled water as I am weaning myself away from cups of tea and diet coke because drinking both feel weird without cigarettes. I'm so glad it's perfectly normal, thanks very much for easing my mind! xx
No worries, always happy to help
Hi Lenne dont worry about the yawning gal, I do it all the time and just like Emjay says it is contagious, because if i look in the mirror and do it, it makes me yawn again ha, there not so bad this time but the first time i quit i can remember yawning a lot, its the cravings this time, they seem worse for some reason. Speak to you soon gal and keep at it.
Pete
Hey Pete! Sorry to hear the cravings are bad- I don't know if this helps but I think of the cravings as the last ditch effort of the nicotine monster screaming to be fed because it is starving- and we are feeling it's screams and death throes. Every time we feel a craving we are one step closer to being free. Big hugs going your way, I truly hope the cravings ease up for you xx
