I have gave up smoking and its been nearly two days..

Just wanted to know if there is any advice and tips to make sure i last this out as i really dont want to lapse xxx

Hi kittykat2881, the most important thing to do is remain positive. Think about the main reason(s) why you want to quit and give yourself a huge pat on the back for making it into your second day.

By now the levels of carbon monoxide in your system will have dropped to that of a non smoker and your blood pressure and pulse rate will have returned to normal.

As and when you feel any cravings, welcome them as a positive sign of recovery, because without stopping smoking you wouldn't be feeling them. Remember, that the feeling of wanting to smoke will go away, whether you have a cigarette or not. Breathing exercises are really good to get you through a feeling of craving or if you drink a pint glass of water.

Thank you emjay.

Im not using anything just going cold turkey which I find ok. I ordered a quit kit aswell so hoping that will help when it arrives. I have Hughes syndrome so it's quite important I don't lapse.

I quit just over four weeks ago. The hardest period was that first week and the 'routine' cigarettes I'd have - walking to work, leaving work, after a meal etc.. Once I'd got through that stage it was a lot easier, I just needed to make when I had a craving I took some gum and when I REALLY thought I needed one, going and distracting myself. I can't quite believe it's been four weeks.

You are now into your 3rd day kittykat2881 and by staying stopped you will find that it will most certainly help with your health condition. The longer you stay stopped, the easier it will become. :-)

thecaptain, how fab - 4 weeks! You are doing really well. I agree with you that the routine cigarettes are the ones that new quitters need to prepare themselves for. Planning is the top step to success. Keep up the good spirit and thanks for your tips :-)

Thanks captain. Four weeks is well good,can you see any benefits as in skin teeth etc??. I am replying to this in my doctors waiting room as I have a appointment to go help me to stay off smoking.

I am feeling good and surprisingly no cravings. That's after 16 years of smoking 10 to 20 a day!!!!

Let's hope I keep it up.
