I quit smoking 36 days ago after smoking for over 40 years. One of the best thing I've ever done However, I find myself short of breathe even more now than when I was smoking. Is this normal ?

Hello decanus and welcome. Being short of breath is very common in the first few weeks of quitting. Your lungs will still be clearing out all the toxins. The ciclia (small hairs) will now be repairing themselves and all the mucus and toxins from smoking will be caught by the cilia. This in return makes you cough or feel short of breath. If by any chance it seems to be getting worse or not subsiding at all, please check with your doctor. He may prescribe an inhaler to help you open your airways. When we smoke it tends to mask a lot of ailments so these can come to a head when we quit. I will assign you your progress badge (next to your name.) May I suggest you have a look through the pinned posts for lots of information to help you with your quit. These are to the right or the bottom of this page.

Looking forward to supporting you. :) xxx
