Hi all hope you are all well and smoke-free.... Im 34 days in. The stomach clenching is now in my chest and throat... I tried deep breathing yesterday whilst diving, not a good idea, i went light headed and nearly passed out. Off to the docs i went. After ruling out heart, lungs and blood clots she put it down to muscular. Apparently when there is tension in the chest it can cause the stomach to contract. She has prescribed diclofenac to help the chest relax, if no better in to weeks then im to go back. I can honestly sat i have never had any problems with anxiety or mental health ever. The stomach is calming down put my chest is still in pain and tight. My throat/neck feels swollen and closing constantly. I have gollitus of tbe mouth(burning sensation). When will it ever end!!!! Its relentless!!! I dont crave cigarettes, not in the slightest if i smell one i gag. Trying to remain positive but its hard when in a cycle of pain-what is it-anxiety - more pain-am i dying, is it terminal - no one understands or listens- deep breathing - light headed etc and it goes on...... Sorry for going on....

Bless you - well firstly huge well done on the stopping smoking - I’m sure if the doctor has given you a check out maybe it is anxiety - I know from experience it can cause a whole list of different things and the more we worry the worse they become xx try and relax and accept these things and see if they improve xxx always here 😘

Hi Sharma, Well done for your 4 smoke free weeks.Don't worry about "going on" if you need help post, there's always someone here.

You are right anxiety sucks! If it happens after quitting we have to learn how to cope with it. You're also right about doing deep breathing while diving..............big mistake.

Well done for seeing your doctor,so you can put your mind to rest and concentrate on coping with it. The diclofenic should help the pain and break the cycle.

Please keep doing the deep breathing, not under water though! If you get light headed while doing the breathing, try doing them slower with a little more space between them. Here's a link which I hope helps a little. Hang in there as it does get better.

Thank you tubby54 ♥ sometimes its just feels lonely and overthinking doesn't help 😔 I were so positive!!! Christmas coming, new year as a non smoker!! Ive done this to myself, im the addict! Wow that sounds weird, but its true. Theres real worse things that cause worry and concern quitting smoking shouldnt be one of them. I try to remain active as this helps, its the wee small hours.... Thank you for listening.....

Hello my dear, I am now almost 4 Months free and I could say the same thing, it is really hard to stop smoking. My neck was feeling weird as well, like closing, like I had something stuck in it. Shaking, bad dreams, waking up in the middle of the night, increased heart rate, inability to eat anything. Soon after I quit, everything from the list above popped in. I couldnt function properly. I went to the doctor, I started taking meds(antidepresive) a very small amount . I felt better right away. This is also my first time in dealing with anxiety/panic and the first time I quitted smoking (i was at 1 Package , or more per day). Why I ended up taking meds so fast? I couldnt function, I have a job I want to keep, I had to fly in vacation and wanted to be normal again, I had to learn how to cope with anxiety and appreciate how aweosme it is to be smoke free! All I can say is congrats honey, the first month is the worst. From now on, every day will be better and better. 🤗

Hi, I am now just over a month smoke free and I still get anxiety and butterflies in my stomach. I have found that drinking lots of water helps it with light breathing exercises.

The craving has stopped but I still get the urge to smoke sometimes but its getting less as time goes on.

I wish you all the best you will win in the end.

one thing that springs to mind,, my late hubby suffered from angina...if your chest is tight and heavy, try to be checked out for it. My hubby also had a persistant high blood pressure, which means he ended up taking more night meds, had crumps due to electrolytes, which is crystals forming in his veins, what is fairly normal, so they say lower legs, both...also get comprehensively checked out, so called MOT, and pester doctors...All your troubles might be connected to stopping smoking, so be prepared to go as far as going to a psychiatrist. When all is normal, and you feel crap and they are out of depth, they send you there.l Perhaps a secession clinic would suite you the best, if they STILL RUN IT, as I don't really know.in other words clinics for people who stopped smoking...keep at it...
