One strategy I used to quit cold turkey - leading up to the quit day, each time I would have a smoke I would think "I'm craving because I'm addicted. Not because I actually need/want this cigarette" - It would help to keep it in my head that the ONLY reason I smoked was because of addiction. The only real reason. If you think something like this each time you crave, it can really help. Good luck, It's hard but it can be done. Take it one day at a time, or one minute at a time if needed.
Hi Koroirua and a warm welcome to quit support. We do have a great quit community here made of members who have all been where you are now.
Planning is a vital part of the quitting process, write down all the reasons why you want quit smoking and keep these reasons close.
Do you plan on using NRT or going Cold turkey? Do have a read of the info under the pinned posts to the right.
We have a wee saying that we use.. NOPE - Not One Puff Ever as that one puff will get you hooked again.

This is my 2nd quit experience, both times cold turkey, and both times it was because I had gotten ill and had not smoked for 2-3 days due to being sick and decided to quick since I was already 2 days in.
it's not easy to do alone, however, you have all of us here to support you and help in anyway we can.
in my first week, at times just venting on here I would feel better, and then when I saw the number of responses I'd feel even better!.
as Jilly mentioned about the pinned posts, those have also really helped me, the breathing techniques and sipping water during a craving seem to help me the most

We care Go for it we will support you on your journey. It's the best thing you can do for your health. Make sure you have a plan, are you going to use NRT, take one day at a time. I am also 50+ and started about 16 and smoked about a pack a day. I had quit a few times over the years for 4 or so months, but then would start smoking again.
I am now at two months and I can say that this time has been the easiest that I have experienced.
I read the book The Smoke Free Way by Tamir Turgal (on my amazon kindle) and I used the IPhone App: Stop smoking in 2 hrs by Jason Vale's
I know everyone is different and different methods work for each one of us, but I would ask that you take a look at these options and see if is something you might want to read and listen to.
What ever method you decide to use, please use the support from this site and enjoy becoming a non-smoker - It is great to not be controlled by cigarettes !

Hi Koro--I kno its hard--do your best--I smoked over 50 yrs--so know what you are up against--Ingrained so deeply on so many levels--It isn't easy but it can be done--and I so wish I would have awakened sooner--but better late then never--Get mad and think how sick of revolving around toxic,poison,killers you are..I weaned off gradually --my whole quit took many months--but I did it--I was so sick of running to store--thinking about them--smoking them,spending what extra money I had on them--Plenty of reasons to want to be free--So hang in there--You can do this--Big Hug for trying again--MmeT
