Trauma therapist. I had PTSD incidents from about 1986 to 1995. I was healing. Then more PTSD events from 1001 to 2004. (And a narcissistic marriage 2004 to 2019.) Over the years, I probably had about 8 therapists (psychologists and psychiatrists... and one nurse therapist). Last December, plagued by nightmares and daymares, I decided to give another therapist a go. I went onto the licensing website for psychologists. All the competences are listed. I made a list of all my problems and looked for a therapist experienced in all of them. The trauma therapist (psychologist) that I have now had most of things I needed. And he is a TRAUMA therapist. The intensity of my nightmares and daymares is down and the frequency is down. I guess... maybe about 50% better.
Listening to Healing frequencies sounds(youtube or spotify), meditation (risk: it can be harmful if trauma hasn't been addressed), yoga? Healing yoga, trauma yoga, hiking, walking, drawing journaling or writing Journaling, cognitive behaviorial therapy, EDMR therapy, talk therapy. Everyone is different, different things may or may not work. Remeron medication low doses helps with nightmares.
I also tried trauma therapy and EMDR, after which I tried somatic experiencing therapy and TRE (trauma release therapy). There are exercices (kind of meditation, but with focus on the body, tapping, breathing) that you can do at home besides therapy (the somatic experience therapist recommended me some, there are also some online programs). For me this has worked because it calms my anxiety and helps my body feel safe, I started doing them regurlarly twice per day and whenever I feel high anxiety (an exercise can take 2 minutes or half an hour). The best advice I can give is to try as many types of therapy as possible, until you find one that works for you.
