Hello. I'm a Danish journalist who has written about psychiatry for years.
I'm currently doing an MA at Columbia University while writing a journalistic piece on the changing landscape of PTSD - from the Vietnam veterans to today where the diagnosis is applied to women and children as well.
I wish to shed light on the fact that PTSD can occur from different types of trauma to paint a broader view of the diagnosis and decrease the stigma surrounding PTSD.
For example, some still believe that PTSD is mainly a veteran diagnosis, when in fact those suffering the most from it today are women. As well as studies suggest that African Americans have a higher prevalence of PTSD than the rest of the population.
I am searching for people who suffer from PTSD due to different types of trauma - it can be everything from combat to bullying - and who would like to tell me about their experience to give a more diverse perspective on the diagnosis.
Please write me here or at est2140@columbia.edu if it sounds like something you would participate in.
