Respite recommendations - North Hampshire, UK

Hi everyone, can anyone recommend a hospice or care home that can offer respite care for a CBD patient who is bed bound and requires 24hr care? I am struggling to find somewhere that can accommodate these high care needs for my mum on an ad hoc basis so my dad can have breaks. Respite of periods of a week are what work best for mum and dad. We are in the North East Hampshire area. Thank you in advance for any recommendations.

I need to find this as well , although waiting on care plan and mum still in hospital at moment. I asked several care homes as we were happy to pay for a week £1900!, but the minimum I was finding they would take for was 4 weeks! Maybe doors will open when we get a care plan.

Hi, thanks so much for coming back to me. This is our experience too, we have been quoted between £1900 and £2200 per week with a minimum of 2 weeks. We are not convinced they can accommodate mum’s needs in full either as mum has no mobility and cognition is very poor. Trying to find somewhere that will do short stays of no more than a week that can provide the care needed. I hope it comes good for you, we will keep searching.

I can't help with specifics but just a thought if you're struggling with a residential home solution have you instead considered contacting companies for a short term live in solution. I think many will do a week

Hi, thank you for your reply. I will look at this in more detail. My dad really struggles with people being in their home, it took him ages to get used to the carers coming and going. I have suggested to him about us looking at a live in carer, he is struggling with that concept. With their life being so upside down I think this is one area he feels is a step too far. I will continue to work on that although I totally understand why he feels his life is no longer his own (if you know what I mean). It is definitely an option to work on.

We much preferred the live in option rather than care home. They got to know my mum and her needs much better and were able to provide a better consistency of care. We used Ranger Home care, you can screen the carers that they have available but it can be trial and error to find the carer that fits with your personality and has the appropriate experience, Don't be afraid to ask for a different carer if it isn't working out. They are based in NE Hampshire. rangerhomecare.com/
