My dad has been diagnosed with psp. My mum is his main carer but because his stability is getting worse and keeps falling over, Take a Break (respite care) had been stopped due to no finance for two people. My mum is trying to get something else sorted but it's just more stress. Has anyone else experience this and do you have any advice.

In my experience they pay for the patient only unless you go private,
Where in the world are you? Then the right people will be able to give advice!

As Julie has said, are you getting CHC funding? If not, get your District nurse to refer you. Are you in contact with your local hospice? They are NOT just there, for end of life care, but to help people live with life limiting diseases, like PSP. Again, get your GP to refer you.

As Laila123 says, ask their GP to refer your mum and dad to the local hospice, but respite is usually nursing care in hospice or nursing home for the PSP sufferer while the Carer is able to look after themselves at home or go on a short break without having the worry of what is happening to their loved one. The problem is finding appropriate care as PSP sufferers tend to need nursing care homes not residential homes and these are often difficult to find hence why hospice are the usual first and only call.
Wishing your mum good luck and best wishes Tim

My brother had to be put in a nursing home because he kept falling! I don't know where ur from but they used his Oldage pension and CCP and that wasn't enough our Goverment subsidized the rest. They were just great!
