Hi all

Just wondered if anyone can explain to me the difference between a continuing healthcare assessment and a fast tracked continuing healthcare assessment. What is the difference in criteria? Thanks.

Usually a fast track CHC is done nearing end of life. The health professionals can apply for this on your behalf and can be granted quickly. Otherwise the process of getting CHC is quite long and arduous. You need to pass a lot of their requirements. Hope this helps.

Don't think there is a difference in the assessment, just the speed its arranged and things are put in place. So generally a fast track assessment is done because there has been a dramatic change in people's needs, maybe as a result of a fall, or poor nutrition has reached a critical point.

Hi. You have already had two good answers. As Kasenda says the ordinary CHC is an arduous process and often not successful. It also concentrates on the negative aspects which I found hard as I tried so hard to concentrate on the good things. My husband was turned down for CHC but 6 weeks later he was granted Fast Track, after it was completed by the Palliative Health Care Team, but he died soon afterwards so we did not use it. Good luck and big hug. AliBee
