My dad who is in advanced stage of PSP is not taking food not even water for the past three days and full of chest phlegm. Breathing thru mouth. Not sleeping for the past three days as we stopped giving sleeping pills due to his low oxygen (spo2 ) levels between 84 to 88.we were advised tracheotomy and PEG feeding which we have denied . He was walking few steps couple of days back but now completely bed ridden. I spoke to GP about his condition. He is anticipating aspiration pneumonia which later could develop to sepsis.Any idea how many days he will be in this condition?Anyone have similar experience?

My husband & I were told by his doctor that he would die within 2 weeks without water. It was 10 days. At my husband’s request, he was no longer being PEG fed. He died peacefully, not on any medication as he didn’t have a chest infection or any other medical condition & wasn’t in any pain. He was still communicating with thumbs up or down on the 8th day & I feel he left me then but his heart stopped on the tenth day. Until he left me I continued to give mouth care, using a spray just to moisten his tongue.

Thinking of you all.
