So we have done our very best to avoid getting COVID for two and a half very long years … Today I officially have COVID, and Momma is showing signs. She tested negative yesterday, but we will test again on Saturday.
We are double vax and boosted. It’s like a really bad summer cold - I had a bad day of fever … and now body aches, fatigue, etc. wicked cough.
I am so very nervous about Mom … upgraded fever yesterday. So we will see what today brings … I just gave her Tylenol .. praying.
Have any of you had COVID?

Kim,Im so sorry. I have thought many times during the scourge of Covid how my wife would have survived the isolation or getting the virus. Im afraid not well.
Im like you. I avoided Covid until last Friday when I tested positive after a short trip. Also Vaxxed and boosted. My eldest son is staying with me because he got covid the same time and is trying to avoid giving to his wife and kids.
So sorry Covid has hit your home. Recently 15 friends, plus my greatgrandson & his mom also have had to deal with Covid. It is amazing how it seems to go from minor to horrid. My test came back negative today but l am not sure it is correct & will retake it in a day or two. Rest as much as you can & know that you both are in my prayers. Sending hugs... Granni B
Hope all goes well for you! We don't need this as well! Just goes to show we need to maintain vigilance and keep ourselves as safe as possible. So far I have managed to avoid Covid, but guess the longer it hangs around, the more likely it is we may catch it!
Thanks & you are so right. After taking 3 covid test (all negative) l believe l had a fiu with many of the same symptoms as covid. I am feeling a bit better today, so are greatgrandson & his mom. Sending hugs... Granni B
Flu is battling with Covid here for bedspace in hospital, and those who have managed their sickness at home say it can last longer than Covid. Symptoms can hang on for up to 3 weeks. So hope you can all throw it off and get back to good health soon!
Thanks for the information Jen. 3 weeks seems like a long time to feel like a useless bump on a log but l am learning to go with the flow. Sending hugs... Granni B
I’m sorry you got it. Even when mild, it is disruptive and inconvenient. It is getting around to the most careful people. I had it in May. I isolated myself (my mother’s caregivers were willing to come and work extra hours) and took Paxlovid prescribed by my primary doc, and overall had a mild course with sore throat and congestion. Afterwards, I had a cough for a few weeks. My mother tested negative and didn’t get it. Paxlovid decreases hospitalization / severe disease by 89%. It is an option, for people with risk factors for severe disease (including age >65) which should be started within 5 days of symptoms or infection. It can cause a bad taste in the mouth (bitterness lasted a couple of days for me), there are some drug interactions, and a chance of rebound symptoms and infectivity, but it helps keep people out of trouble.
Hi, so sorry to hear this. We went through this back in March and my mum who has CBD sadly caught it also. It wasn’t a good experience for us so I am sending positive thoughts that your mum stays negative. Best Wishes.
Hi Kim, sorry to hear that this other evil illness has hit you. All I can say is my Mum, who was in the late stages of Alzheimer’s and had had a stroke, got it, about 9 months before she died, 91 years old, sailed through it with no symptoms! My partner’s father, 92 years old, has just recovered, again with nothing. I think it is like any other cold virus, some get it, others don’t. As for surviving, again, with Mum, at the end, I could have hit her with a feather and that would have been the end. I know you are religious, this really is a time for trusting in your god and praying all will be well.Hope you get better very soon, of course remembering to look after yourself!!!
Hi Kim, sorry to hear you've succumbed after all this time and hope you're over the worst of it. I had it just before Easter but mildly; tired and a sore throat. My son was more ill yet kept testing negative. Ibuprofen and ice-cream helped (when does the latter not?!) and we ate in the 'lurgy lounge' to keep distance from rest of family. Although my symptoms disappeared after about 3-4 days, I kept testing positive for 10 days.
Hope you both get better soon and rest! love Fiona
So sorry to hear I had it just after Christmas I found the fatigue the worse and managed to test negative 2. days before hubby’s funeral .Hope you both feel better soon xxx
Yes like you just got it. Nasty but only rest helped. Try not to do anything and I mean it. Just sleep and rest together it will be nice. She sleeps a lot so you must too. Praying for you both.
Kim, we are so sorry that you have Covid. My sister got Covid recently. She’s 85, was fully vaccinated and boosted, and her immune system is compromised. Fortunately it was a mild case and she has recovered with no further problems. Praying that you and your momma do well.
So sorry to learn you have Covid and perhaps your mum too. Unfortunately there are more and more people I know getting it, some with mild flu like symptoms and others totally exhausted and muscle pain. My granddaughter got it last week for the 2nd time. Thankfully even though I had been with her the day before, I have tested negative several times since. So I’ve been lucky so far but I suppose it’s only a matter of time.
Try and rest as much as you can while your mum is sleeping.
I’m living now in London- UK , I can say so far so good I haven’t had the virus 🦠 as today. I been extra precocious as I don’t have any of the vaccines do to heart condition. God bless 🙏
I had it twice and mom had it twice before she passed last summer (she did not pass because of Covid). Mom actually did better with Covid than I - but our experience mirrored one another’s - owing possibly to genetic similarity.
So sorry to hear this, Kim. I hope and pray you will both come through this. So far I have evaded it.Having my own battles with heart disease and low immunity at the moment, so hoping to stay Covid free. Sorry for not replying sooner!
HI Kim, Late responding, but wanted to check in and see how you and Momma are doing? Hope you have a mild case and some help !! Have you looked into the antiviral for both of you?
Good idea!! They do work. I have 2 friends (husband and wifr) who used antiviral when dealing with Covid and they both seem to have avoided the worst symptoms. She did say, though, that they come with side effects, but did not mention what!Think they are available here free if you tick all the boxes; eg. Age, immunocompromised, frail.
Hi Kim. I'm sorry to hear of your struggles. Be sure our prayers and best wishes are surrounding you just now. Do give us an update soon. I know I've been quiet for months now, but I still love you all!Julietx
Hi Kim, You and your Mom have been in my thoughts and wanted to check in and see how you are doing since your last post about both of you having Covid? HUGS! PatK
