Running in the Houston Half Marathon

Hi Friends,

A quick post to let you know that I will be running the Houston Half Marathon in January in honor of wife and in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. My wife passed away in 2018 from CBD. She was a runner. She loved to run and I ran because I loved my wife. She often told me as the disease progressed that “running was the only time she felt normal”. It wasn’t until her last year that running was taken away from her. The picture of us is from the 2008 Houston Marathon that she ran and that I completed(significantly behind her).

The Alzheimer’s Association in the US also supports “other dementias”, which include CBD and PSP. There is no specific organization partnered with this race that better supports individuals and families impacted by CBD and PSP. The specialist doctor who appropriately diagnosed my wife’s CBD is on the board for our local chapter of the association.

This years Houston Marathon events will be virtual. No, not virtual meaning sitting on the couch with a VR headset(which is what I wanted), but actually running (well mostly running in my case). Ive got the 13.1 mile course mapped out in my neighborhood. I am required to run between the 8 and 17th of January, so I can pick the nicest January weather day to run. Ill repost back how my run went.

What a lovely thing to do. I find running really helps me with my grief, it’s just coming up to 2 years since I lost my lovely Steve and I still have a little cry on most of my runs. We met through running as we met at Cannon Hill parkrun in Birmingham. I hope your run goes well and I know your lovely wife will be with you all the way.Sarahx

Sarah, Thanks. I also find that running gives me an opportunity to process grief, thoughts, and feelings. You made me realize that as in running a race, she would always finish first, but come back and cheer me on.Blessings,

Bobby
