My daughter, Becca, is running in the London Marathon for PSP next Sunday.
My father, Ray, suffered with PSP and passed away 7 years ago. He lived with us at home, (myself, husband and 3 children). He was a very much loved member of the family and known as 'Grumps' to many.
When dad was alive we attended our local PSP Support Group which was held at Shrewsbury, in those days led by Maggie Rose and now by Kat Haines. We found these group sessions invaluable, a absolute lifeline. We have continued to attend and support people (hopefully) with any advice we have been able to give. We were there this Thursday armed with Muffins, cakes and goodies for all, thanks to all those who took said goodies and gave us such generous donations towards Becca's sponsorship.
As a family we do as much as we can to raise awareness and much needed funds for the association. We have done many tea parties, coffee mornings, candle parties. As some of you lovely people on here may remember last year Becca ran a half marathon, her first race and I, along with the family, did a White Water Raft in the Canadian Rockies!!! Thank you to all those who supported us last year.
This disease is still present within our family as Dad's cousin has also been diagnosed with this wicked disease, living with it, be a little more removed, is no easier the second time around.
Due to the Marathon being such a large event and it being Becca's first she has written a on line blog following her journey, beccaspspmarathon.blogspot.... which we thought some of you may like to read and see how she has got to this point. I hope you can all cheer her and others on next Sunday, we believe there are over 100 runners for PSPA!

Whilst I may not be there in person to cheer the PSP runners on I will be cheering them on in spirit. I ran London in a PSP shirt two years ago and it was one of the best experiences of my life (although it did hurt!).
Thank you so much to all for the lovely comments and support, Becca is very grateful to everyone, it is spurring her on and giving her confidence. Hopefully some of you have managed to look at the link to her on line blog, it is quite amuzing at times.
I will be looking out for all the other PSP shirts too, i will be sporting mine!!!
Thanks Jill for your comments. Becca is nursing a very bruised knee tonight, she fell whilst out on her run whilst working in Edingburgh last week. I am sure it will be fine though.
I saw a few months ago that people were running in the marathon for PSP and it inspired me to start running with the idea that I too could do something similiar next year.
I've not found it easy as I'm not a natural runner and the thought of running a marathon seems so so far away. So respect to Becca as it is not an easy challenge at all. Will be cheering her on from the comfort of my TV.
hi Jo, thanks for the support. If you would like to sponsor Becca, she would be really grateful. you can do it safely and securly at

this is the way we have collected sponsorship for our last two events too. Becca did a half marathon last year and myself alnog with the family did a White Water Raft in the Canadian Rockies last year!!
Well done for you trying to take up running, Becca is trying to get me to do the 'Couch to 5k' thing. If you get to read the blog you will see Becca was the most least sporty person ever, hated PE at school and she has cracked this, We are so proud of her.Hope you get the bug too. Start with some small run events before the Marathon though!!
