Friends,
I wrote a month ago that I will be running the Houston Half Marathon in honor of my wife in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. Their goal is to end Alzheimers and “other dementia”, which include CBD and PSP. My supporters contributed more than $1,500 to the Alzheimer’s Associationin this run and another recent walk. This is my finisher photo.
I finished the 13.1 mile “race” yesterday. It was a beautiful day for a run with temps of 4C (40F) at start and peaked at 10C (50F) with no wind. With the run being virtual due to COVID, I was able to just step out my door and start running. I was encouraged at the start because my random shuffle of songs brought up Dave and Jess Ray’s song “Finish the Race” based on Hebrews 12:1-3, which was one of my wife’s favorite passages in the Bible and aptly describes how she lived her life.
I finished in first place for men my age in my neighborhood, which I have to admit is also last place. My pace was just barely faster than my geriatric friends who walk at the mall, but I finished.
I thought that I wouldn’t get anyone to cheer me on like at the live Houston marathon where the crowds are great even for us below average runners, but was pleasantly surprised by neighbors, friends, workers, delivery men, and dogs that cheered me on.
A local television station interviewed me in a series to showcase the Houston marathon and half marathon runners, as well as the agencies that people are fund raising to support. Today one of their reporters came out to get a couple lead in photos and my half marathon start for his report that was broadcast in the evening news.(slow news day). Here is a link: abc13.com/sports/katy-runne... I was just glad to see a TV story that didn't begin with my mug shot.
Blessings,
Bobby
