Wireless bell alert systems

Hello everyone,

My Mum has PSP and we're looking for a system for her to get my Dad's attention when he's elsewhere in the house. It seems like most people use some kind of wireless bell, but there are so many options that I can see online. What do you use?

Thank you!

Following this too, when mom needs attention at night I don’t seem to wake up in time...

Hi Plieepal, see my reply to MJ93. I see you are in the US. Any hardware store should have them. Hope you find something suitable.

Best wishes, Nanny857xx

Thank you so much, now that I think of it, I wonder if mom could even press the buttons...about two months ago she lost the ability to press the button on her electric toothbrush

Hi Plieepal, We also used a baby monitor, camera and portable monitor. I placed the camera in the bedroom which meant I could see and hear my husband and talk to him through the built in intercom. He could let me know if he needed anything but more importantly it prevented many falls as my he tried to get out of bed on his own. I could then tell him to wait and that I was on my way to help him.

In NannaB's reply to MJ93 she had one with 2 cameras.

Maybe something on to these lines might be suitable for your needs. xx

Many thanks, amazon is a great place, hope this will make life a little easier for a little longer, right now mom and I are depending on texts as she can still type using one finger

Hi MJ93, I used a wireless door bell which I bought in B&Q. I taped the push button part to my husband's side bed frame so he could reach it while lying down and plugged the main part into an electrical socket in the hall. Selected the highest level of volume so could be heard no matter what part of the house I was in. Hoping you find this useful.

Best wishes, Nanny857xx

Jackie & I use a wireless doorbell from Amazon. We have 2 plug in receivers at each end of the house on full volume! It cost about £12. There is a wide choice of ‘tune’ to set it to and as it happens we chose a dog barking to be very distinctive. The bell push we put into a plastic box along with other bits (the dog basket!) and that moves everywhere in the house with Jackie.

It’s given me the freedom to get on with things knowing I can be called at any time.

Take care, Ian

Thank you for your reply Yanno, I'll have a look for something similar!

Cheap Plastic squeeze horns for childrens bikes, they will drive you mad, but we have them all over the house! Very effective!

I bought a wireless bell as described by others but my husband got into the habit of ringing it constantly just to see me. Things improved greatly when I bought a baby monitor with two cameras. I carried the receiver with me and could hear what he said, or later vocal sounds and what he liked was that I could talk to him and he knew I could see him. He would wave and I’d just say something like “Hello darling I’m here and will be in to see you soon”. I could also see him if he tried to get up and saved many falls. The second camera was by his bed once he had a separate room.Best wishes

Hi NannaB, We had the baby monitor with camera too. It was a great when in another room to be able to see and hear them and communicate. Saved many a fall when W tried to get out of bed on his own and I was able to say, "wait there, I'm coming now". Hope you are keeping well.

Lots of love, Nanny857xx

Hi. I bought an ordinary small hand bell for Nigel as the wireless bells were needed too much small hand control. Mind you I sometimes wished that I had not bought it !! Cann't find how to add a photo sadly but its actually very neat. Love AliBee

Hi. All the above are good but are largely ‘point to point’ and short range. My wife still has reasonable movement in her hands and is capable of pressing buttons, we have gone for a small walkie-talkie set, it enables me to be in the garage or garden and still be in touch it also enables her to pass short messages although they are getting less distinct. If you go this way make sure you get a light weight (miniature) commercial set not a children’s play set.

All the best. Alan

I used a baby monitor to hear my husband. There are many options that will work depending on what your specific needs are. I didn't spend very much (around $30 US if I remember right) on the one I bought and it was a battery eater which added cost. It might be better to spend a little more and spend less on batteries.

My husband eventually lost the ability to press a bell, but I could still hear what was going on so I knew to go check on him.

Baby alarm with two way audio, with portable monitor for the carer. I use this with my wife (PSP). I sleep in another room at night so I set up an EasyN P camera by her hospital bed operated through an app on my mobile.

My husband had a call button that he wore on a lanyard around his neck. It worked great! We bought it on Amazon for a very reasonable price. It had three receivers so I could have them in different rooms of the house and one in the garage, so even if I was out in the garden, I could hear when he needed me. Let me know if you want this information and I'll look it up and let you know exactly what we bought.

We got quite a cheap wireless set up from B&Q (UK) but they are also available on-line. WE find it very useful and it has a range to reach the bottom of the garden.
