PSP Consultation

Hi. My mum has her first consultation next week in the PSP clinic at hospital. I have arranged with the nursing home to take mum to the appointment myself, by wheelchair taxi, arranged by them. However, I'm a little concerned about how she will cope and indeed myself. By all accounts, we could be out for about four hours and I am not as familiar with meeting her needs as I once was before she went to the nursing home. I wonder if the consultation would be less traumatic for all, if it was possible to have a phone consultation especially in light of the rise in Covid. Any advice?

Hi.

I can quite understand your concerns but I personally feel that a face to face consultation is far more preferable to get a true picture of how she is and as you will be in the PSP clinic you will not be on your own as they will be there to help and support you. It might be worth you phoning them beforehand and voicing your concerns as that might reduce your concerns. Good luck and big virtual hug. AliBee xx

The last time I took Larry to see his neurologist it was such a waste of time as there was nothing they could do I never went back. If it make you feel better for her to go and be there with her fine. See how much all the hoops you are being put through are worth it or not.

I understand your mother is 90 and has had a stroke.

They can offer nothing but support and understanding. When it reached the point when the effort was great we agreed mutually to only contact them if we needed anything.

I would have a phone consultation personally.

Its hard I know. Love from Jean x xx

The consultant made a visit to the nursing home for my mum last time (pre-Covid though) perhaps it’s worth a try or a virtual consultation with an i-pad? Good luck with whatever route you go down

Mum's nursing home haven't allowed me to accompany Dr appointments. They provide a carer. The consultant or GP have then phoned me which allowed me to have a conversation that I couldn't with mum there. One option to consider.
