Japanese Toilet

Has anyone bought a japanese toilet for their bathroom to be used by someone with PSP?

I am thinking of buying one for my husband to make things easier for him.

Just wondered if they are worth trying?

Hi, i woukd say yes go for it. We created a wetroom for my husband and bought a wall hung wet/dry loo (japenese toilet) from bidet-shower.co.uk for @ £800/900and it's brilliant. The company is quite small and privately owned and you can call and speak to the owner who has real knowledge rather than a salesman... i rang him a few times for advice and options and they have a wide range, sell on line and any good plumber can fit from the detailed instructions they provide. There a number of considerably more expensive products on the market but a number just as effective at more reasonable costs. There is also an option to purchase a wet/dry loo seat for existing toilet if changing current toilet isn't an option. It's probably the best investment we have made, ensures an element of dignity and makes toileting and cleaning easier. If you haven't already got do consider fitting a wall grab bar and possibly a drop down grab bar on the other side. Hope this helps. If you want any further info do let me know

We did the same, but unfortunately I think we did it too late, as Mum couldn’t grasp using it at all. So it was only used when I was helping or the carers were.

I understand your local council will pay for any device up to £1000 for a disabled person,, if not the NH5.

Hi, before buying one yourself it my be worth checking if you can get a grant from the council. We had a DAG (which is paid back when we sell the house) rather than a DFC

As part of our garage conversion to a bedroom and wetroom they fitted a Geberit aquaclean toilet.

As Millidog mentions, you also need grab rails.

I bought this from Amazon and fitted it myself - reasonably easy to fit and works well. They do it in left or right hand operation dependent on which hand still works / works best

they’re marvellous. We’ve had one for years, prior to PSP. Quite expensive. We’re converting our downstairs loo into a shower and I’m putting one in there too!

We had a bidet seat fitted - knowing that it would be useful for a limited time. The type we got cost approx £300 + fitting. It was not 100% effective i.e. he would still need help some times but it was comfortable and my husband appreciated the independence it gave him for a while. We also put a wireless doorbell by the toilet so he could get some privacy.

Best wishes, Bergenser 🌻🤗

I have two bidet seats. Invest in a good quality seat... worth every cent. One was installed for my 30 year man-child son with autism. This seat will do everything, except for kiss you goodnight... the manufacturer is probably working on that.

We had an R Flory FDB300 seat fitted (£300 from Amazon). Easy to fit straight onto the existing loo - but may need someone with a bit of plumbing ability. We have had 2 over the past 8 years and I cannot recommend it enough. It allows you to maintain your dignity as it does a good job cleaning you up. In fact there is an argument all of us should use them!

Richard 🙂
