After long time challenges my hasband awarded with CHC. I am very pleased but I don't know what's happening next , I have received a recorded envelope with lots of info and leaflets I tried to call them, left a message no one come back to me?!

I would be so grateful if anyone who already receiving CHC share their experience with me?

Thanks

Hi Samila

When we were given CHC funding we had to wait about another 2 months before the money came through and then they back dated it all so I had a large sum turn up into the account that I set up. however, because I waited before looking at getting care in they took it off me about 2 months later!!

We have just had our funding increased so that my husband now has full time live-in care. Not ideal having strangers permanently in your home but the alternative is a care home which is not an option in my mind 'yet'.

Start to look at what you will spend the funding on, remembering it needs to be part of the care plan they put together with you.

Initially I was going to hire carers myself but in the end found it so much simpler to use an agency, you may find you end up with the good and the bad but assert this to the agency and hopefully you will be able to select the good carers (or equally the ones you have a better relationship with).

Finally our CHC require the accounts every month, keep all receipts and if like me, give your self a couple of hours each month to get these done and returned.

Good Luck

Sorry... CHC must be in a country other than tbe USA. Is that correct?

Hi Boyce

CHC - Continuing Health Care is a method of funding health care in the home in the U.K.

They assess whether the illness requires health care and if you qualify they pay for it.

It can be a damned nightmare getting it.

Sorry if we have been too jargonned.

And taking this opportunity to wave hello and wish you the best

Kevin

Waving back and sending same good wishes! Thank u for replying.

The U.S.A. just wants you to play God and purchase a policy as early in life as you can and then pay premiums monthly while you are praying you never have to use it.

Alternative is to declare poverty, give them your house and everything else, and then let them place you in a God forsaken place under the guise of "care".

Thank God we did purchase policies on both of us less than 2 years prior to this illness pouncing on my husband. He was in tiptop shape when purchased. Everything has happened so unbelievably fast. This past year feels like 10!

It could be worse. I am grateful for blessings.

Hi Boyce

That sounds tough... I won't mention Obama care... I was so happy when that was set up... Then I heard is wasn't so great. Sighs.

Yes, I have aged a lot since doing care. Quite a shock. :(

Hang in there

Best to you both

Kevin

Marvellous :)

The funding will come in one of two forms and you choose which.

Direct services where they will agree with you what you need and put that in for you.

Or

Direct Payments where they agree a care plan with you and you buy in the services within the plan.

The monies are backdated to the date of approval.

Whatever - you need a copy of the care plan.

Good news

:)

For my hubby I already had a carers coming in three times per day so when I eventually received funding I kept the original agency and they arranged to send an invoice to CHC directly and this became effective from the date funding was granted. Being allowed by CHC to keep the same carers was a bonus as my hubby knew the team looking after him and was comfortable with them. It did save CHC time as they didn’t have to contact agencies to see if they could accommodate a care plan for him but I do not know if this is the norm as it depends on pricing of course.

The large amount of money I paid to the agency before funding was received has not yet been recovered and I don’t believe it will although I shall try. Great news to receive funding takes a great weight off your mind. Brilliant. Jxx

Adding

Even if you are getting direct payments and plan to buy in services - They will help find them for you if you want and they are good at that.

Also - Equipment still comes free to borrow from Social Services.

Our CCG isn't too hot on that front of finding the actual care service.

I believe it varies depending on your Health authority. We have been CHC funded for 5 years now, we had an annual review for the first two years. We were promised direct payments but heard no more but as we are satisfied with care provided we are not chasing them up. A previous care company failed a CQC report and I asked for a change of company and we were allocated a company we are very satisfied with.

Not what you're looking for?
