After the last two positive CHC checklists were rejected by the ICB, my Mum has today been awarded fast track CHC funding as she is end of life. Quite how we can go from a checklist rejection to this is beyond me. Mum weighs just 31.6kg and can barely eat or drink This has been the case for several months. I’m so frustrated with the ICB, but that’s a fight for another day.
I hope her passing is peaceful ❤️

Dear Nicki,I'm sorry to hear that the funded care hasn't been approved sooner and that your Mum is at ennd of life. My thought are with you at this difficult time. 🫂🌻
Yes, we had this with my dad. We had a 2 hour telephone appointment with a social worker and specialist chc nurse where were set out everything, my dad was bed bound, could not communicate, was doubly incontinent, couldn't feed himself or hold a drink yet we were refused. I just don't understand how poorly you have to be to be awarded chc.
Following this we contacted our local hospice where the lead consultant there made his recommendation along with dad's specialist nurse at the hospital that he be awarded fast track due to his declining health and terminal diagnosis. We had to go down this route because when we asked the District Nurse to complete the fast track paperwork she refused saying dad would not qualify. Funnily enough as soon as the hospice consultant got involved she agreed to it. We were then awarded fast track.
The whole system around chc funding needs overhauling in my opinion as the whole process caused our family so much stress and was so time consuming to deal with applications when we should have been spending the time with my dad.
