Now ove recovered I thought I'd give you a giggle this morning.
Dad seemed a bit agitated and in pain at about 7.30am so I called for pain relief. A Pair of nurses came in and gave him an injection, first nurse then left the room.
2nd nurse wanted to check dad's temp so stayed behind. As she was doing this she started to act odd.
She was clawing at dad's top, trying to pull his covers off and waving the sharp around. She sat on the bed and I tried to take the needle off her and hold her up, she very nearly stabbed me or herself as she wouldn't let go and then she flipping bit me!!!!
My mum called for another nurse who came in to help. Turns out the poor woman has epilepsy. We managed to get her into a seat and shortly after she left the room.
I was very shaken, and burst into tears. 2 cups of sweet tea later I'm laughing (still somewhat nervously)...and surveying the teeth marks on my arm!
We are laughing but in all seriousness I feel for the nurse, but more than that I'm just thankful that dad wasn't on his own because I dread to think what could have happened.

Oh dear doesn’t sound good, but you are ok, your dad more than likely could of seen the funny side to it, but must of been frightening xxxx big hug coming your way xxxxx
😱 Pleased you are both OK. As time goes on it will probably seem even funnier but what a relief that needle didn’t do any damage, although her teeth did.
Goodness me as though have not got enough to deal with. Doesn’t bare thinking about if you were not there. Top marks for you and not teeth marks. Hugs Jxx
Martha I have to admit this made me laugh but I can see how serious it could have been too. I think the other nurse should have stayed with her. However she probably wasn't expecting that to happen? Good job you were there. I doubt she would have hurt your Dad. More likely to have hurt herself to be honest? However she managed to fight you off with a bite! Have visions of this but no wonder you were in shock! Think I would have been too.
No doubt it will be a funny tale in the future when you recount it. Right now although you can see the funny side you are rightly concerned about what might have been had your Dad been alone. Thank goodness he wasn't aware of all this. Or was he? I have been thinking of you and your family and of course your dear Dad. Nothing like this remotely in my thoughts though!
Love and hugs to you.
Kevin is right! This has to be top spot for unpredictability of PSP and caring!
OMG how bizarre as if you didn’t have enough to contend with.
Did the nurse’s bite break
through your skin if so you should get the wound checked and ?? antibiotics. Humans and animal mouths are full of bacteria hence the enquiry but the 2nd nurse will have checked your bite site I hope???
Your resilience in seeing the funny side is hugely commendable.
Take care and do try to avoid any more biting nurses!!!
Hi Tippy. No she didn't break the skin thankfully.
The manager of the home has been in to see me, she is going to report the nurse to the NMC as this has raised a serious question about the safeguarding if vulnerable adults....she usually works with dementia patients.
I feel awful but st the same time would be horrified if something happened to someone else.
Coincidentally it was her last shift working here, she starts a new job tomorrow 😨
What a relief - on both counts!! I am pleased for you that you have the reassurance there will not be a repeat performance if the nurse is leaving, It is also reassuring that the home are taking their safeguarding responsibility seriously too.
Take care a nice 🍷and a chill is required now after this stressful interlude!!
I have epilepsy and you should see the teeth marks in my shirts.....I have just enough time to put something in my mouth (usually the things i"m wearing) and SIT DOWN.....Unfortunately my last principal (had 11 from the same school;;;;doesn't say much for the school) did not appreciate me having seizures on his watch and would send me home. Thing is, I always exited the classroom, and came back with no child being affected! Infact Several times I had to hold IEP meetings (Special Ed meetings with parents teachers and principal) minutes after my szrs. That WAS some 12 years ago. Now, Though I still have an aura to warn me of my pending doom, I cannot bounce back up like I used to....maybe that cranky principal knew something I did not ....that the szrs are not get any better! CAN'T find a job now due to my szrs....not really lookin either! Heres another sorta funny story: Once my mom called, and I could feel a szr coming on. I told my mom I had to go but she was never terribly understanding and continued to bramble on. I could no longer hold on and when I woke up, I realized that I was still in standing position with my husband holding me and carrying on the conversation with my mother! God bless him! hahahaha
Anyway, Thank God that nurse did not stab anyone..,..poor thing....Thank you for laughing.....Please don't think poorly of her....
AVB
oh an P.S that principal is also gone....Next! hahaha
