It is getting more difficult for my husband to open his mouth. He has to push any food in between his teeth. Has anyone had experience with Botox injections for this problem?

Hi Greenkerrycounty
Sorry to hear you are at this stage. Its difficult and so distressing.
Yes my Liz tried this under a consultant whose main role was botox and neurological disorders.
He warned that the botox would weaken the muscles holding the jaw shut, but that the muscles which pulled the jaw down might not be strong enough to open her mouth.
She tried it - very minor op. just some six minor injections done in 5 minutes in his consulting room whilst she sat in her wheelchair - no sedation needed.
He was correct - She still could not open her mouth.
However the fact that he even tried it tells me that it must work for some.
I'm sure others here will come back with their experience.
Best to you both
Kevin
Kevin-1. Thank you very much. Hard to know what to do. What did you finally have to do?
Hi
Because it was such a simple procedure we tried it but it failed.
Liz had no adverse reactions and really continued as if it had never been done.
It may be someone else will reply to you with different results.
I have done a bit of reading of old threads and found nothinguseful excepting that it might be good for clenched hands.
Hi GreenKerryCounty: There are a few historical strings that might be useful - or maybe some bits in them? Try these titles in the search window:

Best of luck to you! Let us know how things go...

Richard is at this stage but he had a peg feed fitted so feeding through the mouth wasn’t as important. He gets all the necessary goodness from the peg feed. He still likes to eat through his mouth but if he can’t (through choking or not opening his mouth) he still get the necessary goodness through the peg feed.

Botox was not recommended but a doctor compounded us a liquid to put on hic cheeks and it has worked WONDERS! If you want info, I can send to you.

The Prescription comes from a compounding pharmacy. The doctor will need to ask for:
Ketoprofen-Ibuprofen-cyclobenzaprine.
4% - 2% - 1% solution.
Use three times a day on jawline. It will work wonders. The doctor who created this for us called us and was so happy to help.
let us know what happens.

Thanks Cuttercat
I really appreciate this.
Is this rubbed on the jaw line externally or internally?
I'll see if we can get some.
It might be difficult in the UK.
Bet to you
Kevin
