I have tried it but with no success I have baclofen tablets now...........
How well does baclofen work? I don't have serious problems yet, but the fingers in my left hand are always trying to clench into a fist. I make a point of keeping them extended.
Mom did not try botox, nor did she complain of pain. If your mom tries botox for her alien hand please let us know her results. I have an alien hand and it is a bit painful. Mine has not progressed as far as your mom's. Sending Hugs... Granni B
My MDS said Botox will help with the hand - relax it, but the benefit will only be cosmetic.

Yes, I have had Botox in my severely clenched and spastic right hand. My right arm is also affected with the muscles in my upper arm being very rigid. I have had 2 treatments so far and it does help for a while but doesn’t last. You have to go back for shots every 3 months. While the shots don’t open my hand completely, it does relieve the clenching somewhat. I do feel more comfortable after the shots take effect. I do also take Baclofen for the spasticity and that also seems to help. My husband gives me a hand and arm massage at least once a day, sometimes more. While my hand is now unusable, I still do some seated tai chi to try to keep the movement in my arm.
I resisted Botox long after it was offered because I was still able to use my hand but eventually, it became impossible and the clenching became severe. I hope this helps, if you have any questions about my experience I would be happy to answer.
Botox on tight drawn up leg successful. Now about to have Botox on tight claw like hand. Fingers crossed.

I hope you don't mind my asking you a question in the middle of this thread but being new to this forum and undiagnosed, except for dystonia, with no specialist currently on board CBD symptoms are sounding all too familiar to what I'm experiencing. I'm 68.
My right arm has been getting stiffer and stiffer and I get tendon or ligament pain in the center of my hand that feels like a rubber band has snapped inside. Now my fingers are painful and trying to curl up and stretching seems to help although not stopping it. I can't pick up anything heavy with my right hand or arm w/o making the arm muscle painful. It started about 3 years ago. Secondary dystonia (to what?) is what I would like to find out but won't be seeing a specialist for possibly 9 months.
The question is: Did your hand and arm symptoms start out similarly? At first I thought it was tendonitis from using the computer mouse. Both hands are stiffening but right one is the worst. I wouldn't call it alien. I would appreciate reply from you or anyone who responded to Cianodude who has this problem. Thanks
Hi .i am sorry you have problems with your hand. My husband was due to have the Botox injection in his hand tomorrow, but it has been cancelled because of the current situation. Hope he will be able to have it in a few months.
Best wishes to you.
I am just reaching out to anyone for some correlation of symptoms. Not that I want them to correlate. Ha! Current situation is going to mess up a lot of medical needs I guess. They can only do so much. Sorry about the cancellation. I hope he isn't in too much pain. My hand is getting more painful otherwise I didn't mind it too much. Thanks for the reply!
My mums symptoms are the exact same as yours...her poor hand is ice cold.i xant massage it as she roars out in pain..shes only on simnemet..wondering would baclofan work
I just bought a TENS muscle electro impulse thing from Amazon and will try it on my arm. Thanks for the reply. I had wondered if the cold hand, pain and contractures were all connected. I do take levodopa and it helps but I'm pretty miserable with an internal tremor, swallowing and slow digestion and other things. It's better knowing since no one else lives in this body. Thanks so much for taking the time...I'm in BC, Canada. Take care.
I don't see an improvement with TENS and will be seeing an orthopedic doctor on Monday. I did some research and came up with pronator teres syndrome that look an awful lot like carpel tunnel syndrome but is not. Pain is in my elbow, forearm, hand and palm but not in the wrist. I may try acupuncture but not sure if it would help a condition stemming from a neuromuscular cause. Will let you know if it works.
Esther has about 8 botox shots in areas of contractures...knees shoulders at her thigh. No relief or benefit at all. Canceled her next treatment when the doctor couldn't say next treatment would do any good. You can try on the fingers good luck.
