Just came back from the wedding of my nephew, an officer with the Endicott, Ny police. He had a usually fatal bone cancer when he was 5, so small, so heart rending. To see him tall and strong and happy in love was amazing. I grasp at this. Amidst grief, oh my, such joy.

My sister, his mother, was a NYS trooper, now retired. Her husband was a county mountie. A step son of my sister is in the Lexington Ky police.

When the police are today so often truly the villains, I am holding on to the beautiful, courageous goodness of the officers in my family. They are the police we need. I am proud of them.

And you should be! A family full of service and dedication. So glad you were able to celebrate with them.

I’ve heard from so many of Mikes fellow officers and support staff, and they have all shared stories of not only his courage and strength, but also of his kindness, fairness and wonderful spirit. So much for me to hold dear in my heart!
