My father in law has recently been diagnosed with psp. He is experiencing dreadful nightmare hallucinations. i am very concerned about my mother in law as they live in norfolk and my husband and i live in co down. Can anyone let me know if medication can help.
Please advise: My father in law has recently... - PSP Association
Please advise
Medication caused my husband's hallucinations. If your father in law is taking anything, or has patches or drops to help with saliva, ask your mother in law to check possible side effects.

I have Not heard of PSP victims that had bad dreams,how-ever that is quite prevalent in Parkinson's ...which your probably aware of ...hallucinations yes, but bad dreams no .What were the determining factors in the PSP diagnosos? good luck ...jeff
Sorry to say many folks here have reported hallucinations. Sometimes it is the result of medications; our neurologist always had me monitor for that when starting a new drug. Meds for saliva, incontinence, palsy and balance all are potentially capable of setting off episodes. Anti anxiety meds may help or may hurt! It's definitely something his doctor should be asked to address. Best wishes, ec
Francey I am so sorry to hear your Father-in-law has had such a bad injury. Sad to say hospitals don't know much about PSP. Unless someone has actually come across it before, your Mother-in-law is going to struggle. Is there any other family near her? As she needs support. This is such a stressful thing for carers. Not great for the person diagnosed either. I hope someone can help her.
As others have said it is possible the medication is causing the hallucinations. He needs to be seen by a Neurologist if he hasn't already so his medication can be checked.

Thank you Marie, it is exhausting for my mother in law . in the process of trying to sell our house to get a bungalow so they can come and be with us in ireland.
Dear Marie, you always give such good advice. Althea 💛🙏
Francey I hope you are successful soon. Your Father-in-law will probably have a downturn after the fall and presumably they are going to operate? It is really bad news for both of them. My heart goes out to you all but especially your Mother-in-law and Father-in-law. It's a hateful disease and so hard on the person doing the caring.

Dear Francey, seems every case of PSP is different. My husband Barry was having hallucinations and very vivid dreams before being diagnosed with PSP.
How long ago was your father diagnosed and what is his health like.
Althea💛🙏
Hi Althea, i guess he was diagnosed a few months ago but these horrible hallucinations only really started a week ago, it's hard to say how his health is on the back of this fall he has had.
we will have to wait to see if they will operate on his pelvis tomorrow as his body is in too much shock today
Hospital
Francey let us know what happens with him? My husband fell and broke both bones in his right arm. Needless to say he could hardly use it afterwards. So don't be surprised if he goes down after this. The problem is once there is a step down it stays that way until the next one.
Love to you all.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.
Please continue to write as this group can be there for you as his psp progresses. 💛🙏
Hi Francey. My wife was having very violent dreams; thrashing around and shouting. She was prescribed 0.5 mg Clonazepam at bedtime. We now both get a reasonable night's sleep.
