Best laid plans

So I've been down with a vomiting and diarrhoea virus for two days... Pretty much knocked out.

Not enough to trigger our contingency plan... You know the one where people in black abseil out of a helicopter at night and make us all safe... (or did we scrap that one?... couldn't get it on the NHS...dunno).

We got through... I never thought of transient illness...

Liz took it all in her stride. As she always has.

Agh! Something all of us probably dread, being ill and still having to care for someone. I hope you will soon be 100% fit.

Sending you a virtual hug ( I can't catch anything from you that way!)

hahahhaah Oh don't you love being sick and a carer at the same time? . The only contingency there is..." you can poop as many times you want, but you still have to clean up mine!" ie there is no rest for the weary.

Hi Kevin, this is the one we all dread! Not a lot you can do, with your head stuck down the loo.

I am paranoid about this particular illness and my hands are washed to an inch of their lives. Not that I suppose it will make a lot of difference. I always keep my freezer topped up with meals for one, now I have even puréed some, just in case. So at least I will be able feed S, if nothing else.

Now you don't need me, or anyone else to tell you, that just because you feel a bit better, it will still take time to fully recover. DO NOT over do it, in the next couple of days. Make sure you get plenty of rest. We all are running on fresh air, there is no spare juice in the tank for this sort of thing, so get on to that sofa, put the telly on and build some back up. The washing, ironing, hoovering etc., etc., etc., will wait another day! Use my motto, why do today, that what will need re-doing tomorrow!

Take care.

Lots of love

Actually for once I am. Just heard that my ex husbands niece has just died of cancer, she was 44 with two small boys. I have know her since she was two and although I haven't been in her life for some years, still feel very sick that somebody the same age as my children, can be taken! Puts my life in to a bit of perspective.

Lots of love

Oh I'm sorry Heady, worse\t part is those boys got no mama. Luckily there are many support systems in place for family issues like these. Back when your kids where young, very few resources...Not many places to go but to hurry up and get married again....I pray that there is calm in that family soon.

Thanks folks - good advice - I guess my mind set is carer comes second.

Yes, I was really frightened Liz would get it... no salads, kitchen tops sanitised and surgical gloves.

And no hugs :(

Taking it easy as told

Thanks

Yes as others have said, what happens when the carer is ill, and stomach bugs do seem to knock you out. Last time I was ill F was still able to make me hot Ribena(my comfort drink when I'm sick) that won't be happening again!

Hope your felling better

Debbie

As always it's the little things that knock for you for six. Why is that?

Hi Debbie

Yes, I am quite surprised. I felt pretty OK yesterday until about four (my time to sit down to a cup of tea) Then my energy just failed then aching joints and a headache... nasty little bug.

I'm improving. It is a little scary in terms of caring. Fortunately Liz is not so progressed with PSP and she is not too demanding.

I need to have something in place where I can call the agency and get someone in quickly were I to be very ill... Yes, Heady it is often little things... but I find the wear and tear of being a carer tougher than a 50 hour a week high stress NHS job.

Anyway... thanks for caring

Kevin
