To all you amazing, wonderful, inspirational carers - "Happy Carers week".
It might seem a ridiculous gimmick in your world of constant caring but it's a voice, it's people hearing about all that you achieve and it gives us all the opportunity to say "thank you" for all you do to make our loved ones less frightened, more comfortable feel loved.

Hate to be cynical Kate! But who invented this? Someone else, that just pats us on the head, then slams the door very hard in our faces, making sure that our hands are caught in the way!!!
Sorry, I know your comments about your Dad are genuine. Thank you for YOUR good wishes. But you are right, it does feel like a gimmick. Personally, I think we are treated like some thing the dog dragged in, then discarded! If it one thing I can't stand, is people saying, "oh, you are doing such a wonderful job, I don't know how you do it"Or like the woman from Crossroads said to me last week, "I am surprised to have managed this long without breaking". One day, one day, somebody is going to get the answer......"cause I have had no "@&£&@?£&@" choice!!!!!!!!!

Hear, hear Heady. I too am fed up with being given a virtual pat on the head.
Being patronised is one on my pet hates. The only contact I have from my local carers group is leaflets offering pampering days out ... Chance would be a fine thing !
I once went for a counselling session at the GP's surgery which was OK but I had a letter asking why I hadn't gone back. Well maybe it was because on the few hours I get while P is at daycare, I have essential chores to do and counselling seems like a luxury.
I too get comments from professional who tell me they don't know how I Cope- well it is because I have no alternative.

Well the hospice that S goes to, invited us Carers to afternoon tea this week, in aid of Carers Week. I had a a cup of coffee and a scone with a bit of cream and slice of strawberry!!! That was my thank you and to show that they understood what I was going through!!! I don't think so!!!!!!!!!
