My message is simple, I just want to say a heart-felt 'thank you' to people here on this forum.
My fantastic Dad, Jim, passed away last Sunday from PSP after contracting a chest infection and high temperature which was in fact pneumonia . He died at home, where, with a great deal of support, we were able to care for him until the end, one of his express wishes.
PSP took almost everything from him, leaving him only hearing and seeing. He was doubly incontinent, not able to feed himself, speak, swallow properly or load bare at all.
It is a very cruel illness and this forum was so very helpful to me. As well as offering practical advice from people in the same position, you guys gave me strength in the dark and long nights. Just to know that we were not alone, that there were no perfect answer for every question and that others were coping, in turn gave us the strength to carry on.
We will be raising money for the PSPA in memory of my Dad who never once complained although the frustration and loss of dignity must have been horrendous for such a proud and active man.
It was privilege to help him at the end and I will miss him hugely but it was partly everyone on this forum that helped to make his final wish achievable. Thank you all and stay strong. xxx
PS. If I can help with any practical questions from my experiences, please just ask.
