New discount club launched for carers
People caring for their sick and disabled family members are set to benefit from a new club designed specifically for carers.
CarerSmart is the first club of its kind and is launched by Carers Trust, giving the UK’s seven million carers a chance to save money on a range of products and services whilst they continue to provide care.
Unpaid carers save the economy around £119 billion each year, often at great personal sacrifice, so the club will help to give something back to them by recognising the tremendous value of the support they provide.
Carers will be able to save money on a range of products by getting cash back in numerous high street stores as well as discounted rates on energy bills, insurance renewals and lifestyle activities, such as the gym, the cinema, days out and travel. They will also have access to free legal advice. As part of Carers Trust, carers can also find out more about both local and online services to support them in their caring role.
Luen Thompson, Director of Marketing and Communications at Carers Trust, said: “This is the first club of its kind for carers and it will make a vast difference to many of the seven million carers across the UK and the people they care for. We know that carers sometimes struggle financially because they have had to give up work or have shortened their working hours to care for a family member or friend.
“Carers traditionally spend more time at home and therefore have higher bills, but CarerSmart will help them to cut the cost of their fuel bills. Carers also tell us that they need a break or sometimes feel isolated and often give up their hobbies and leisure time. The club can help them to get out and about more by offering discounted rates at the gym, on holidays and other leisure activities.
“The uniqueness of the club means that carers right across the UK can benefit. They will be able to use an online calculator to work out how much they could potentially save and we estimate this could be as much as £600 per year.”
The CarerSmart club is free to join. To register, visit carersmart.org.
