My husband has the same thing. It also seems to be the worse at night too. He takes Gabapentin (helps with nerve pain) each night and that seems to help some. I will also give him Advil with that too. That at least gives him enough relief so he can sleep for a bit. Other times I have wrapped a warm towel around his hands and that sometimes works too.

This is a huge problem isn't it! Nobody understands, just think they must be demented, therefore why should they bother! Surely, everyone deserves to be treated properly, even demented feel pain, it's not exclusive to well people!!!!

Unfortunately this is quite common. When dad was really stiff we would give him small amounts of clonazepam to help with muscle relaxation. I spent a lot of time massaging dad's hands and arms. I have a little trick that will get that hands open every time. Not sure if I can describe completely but I took my pointer finger and got it across the base of his fingers and would kind of snap my finger out - the hand opened. i don't know - it worked for my dad - - -

May not be relevant, but after my shoulder surgery this summer I had terrible pain in my immobilized hand at night. I used those stick on patches for muscle soreness, which got so warm feeling I was at least distracted from the ache!
