Hi StAlbans,

Mum certainly does. She takes Movicol every day to keep her bowels moving. We try and encourage her to drink as much liquid as possible to reduce the possibility of urine infection but it isn't always successful.

My dear Aunt certainly does and has regular samples checked, she gets Anti Biotic's frequently. I am assuming that is due to her ability to hold back until carers visit for toileting. She will not use the pad and needs 2 x people to do commode transfer.

UTI's have been a significant issue for my mother who was diagnosed in 2008. She has had chronic infections that have been very difficult to manage. In the last 12 months she has been on every antibiotic available and the length of time between the antibiotic working UTI's has grown shorter and shorter. She has been on maintenance antibiotics for several years. At this point she is only treated when the symptoms are very advanced as she has grown a resistance to most of the antibiotics. As of late she has been given injections of ceftoximine for seven days by home health care. Her physician stated that she will always test positive for a UTI so we need to wait until the symptoms are blatant in order to treat her. This has been very difficult for me to understand as you can see her getting visibly worse shortly after being treated. I have struggles with this issue for several months. If left untreated there is a good possibility of sepsis setting in.
