Good morning Gentlemen! I wanted to take a moment to Thank each and every one of you that reached out to me after my initial. To recap, I am a 53 year old man and was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in September with a Gleason Score of 3+4. Immediately, they wanted to do surgery but I knew that based on my lifestyle and the severity of my situation, that really wasn't going to be the right choice for me.
Making the right decision was a difficult one but I went to 3 different doctors to get different opinions, discussed everything in detail with my husband and I relied heavily on the advice that was given to me from others on this site.
I decided to go with Cyberknife (SBRT), based on all of the options presented to me, I felt this one would be the least damaging to my body. Prior to starting my treatments, my doctor implanted the fudicial markers and a spaceOAR spacer to protect my rectum from radiation. My 1st session was January 8th and I did 5 treatments, my last one was completed on January 17th.
The most important part in all of this is to stay positive! As hard as it is, just know that you can get through this and live happily after. Just take your time and make the best decision for you. I was a wreck when I first received my diagnosis and I just wanted the cancer out but I am glad that I took advice from this site and took my time making my decision.
I am happy to report that I have had very few side effects. My doctor put me on Cialis during the treatment to keep things moving down there and I am having no issues there. I am still ejaculating but the consistency and amount has changed, but hey, I'll take what I can get! No incontinence issues at all, so grateful for that. Yesterday, I received anal penetration for the 1st time and it was wonderful, no pain or discomfort at all. I know that I am one of the luck ones but I decided to write this morning to hopefully bring hope to someone else. I am just finished and there is still a ways to go but I know everything is going to be just fine!
Wishing everyone the best of luck durning there journey!
