Last winter, I had an digital exam after my PSA increased. The doctor said he thought I had an abnormal prostrate and recommended a biopsy. I did visit another doctor to get his opinion of my condition. After another digital exam, he said he didn't think that my prostrate was that abnormal.
Has anyone else had an experience like this?

Based on my urologist recommendation I had a biopsy. No PC but a couple of atypical cell clusters. 6 months later my PSA went down from .7 to .64 (I think I got the numbers right).
The results of a DRE can be a bit subjective. If your PSA has risen, the next step is an MRI. It will give a more accurate result than a DRE of what is going on.
Yes, and get the biopsy, my PvP said the prostate feels normal, but sent me to an urologist, same result, but he did order a mpMRI. That revealed 2 tumors, moved on to the biopsy which showed 4 tumors, had RRP mud June 2019. Pathology clean, cancer limited to prostate. ED now full, incontinence now minor, using pads, followup in October...good luck
I once had a whole class of interns fingering my prostate. One of the girls needed to cut her fingernails. One uro was sure he felt something, another said no. Most doctors don't take the time or don't have the experience to examine it properly. I think gay men can help their friends out by giving them a leisurely prostate exam - "friends give friends the finger."
DREs are very controversial. There are a few other diagnostic tools to help decide whether a biopsy is warranted.
I did. Rising PSA, normal exam except for enlargement.
Remember: the examiner at best can only feel the lower half of the gland nearest the rectum. Shorter fingers and less force will not reach the front part either.
I seem to have a very different experience than the majority, I had numerous D.E.s and was told there was nothing unusual yet my P.S.A. was over 20 and rising rapidly followed up with ultrasound and M.R.I. and nothing of significance yet PSA continued into the high 20's , antibiotics for possible infection to no avail finally had biopsy with PSA in the 30's and cancer was detected, I guess my point is ever journey is different try not to be alarmist but proceed with caution and awareness
