Trimix and Eliquis

I live in Northern Cali. I've been using Trimix injectable, successfully, for about 2 years. I've been using Eliquis, for atrial flutter, with the trimix, for about 18 months, with no problems. My urologist refuses to renew the trimix because I'm on a blood thinner. Has anyone had this situation and was able to convince their urologist to renew the trimix?

I have been taking Eliquis and using Trimix for the past 3 years. I do have to be careful to avoid hitting a vein or I sometimes get a hematoma. I do apply pressure in the injection point for at least 2 to 4 minutes. The longer the pressure the less risk of getting a hematoma. If I do get a hematoma it dissipates in about 4 or 5 days. I will ask my urologist thoughts about it the next time I go.

I have been on a blood thinner and used trimix at the same time for several years. No problems. My uro has never indicated that this could be a problem.

Maybe get flutter ablation surgery and fix that problem? I know it's not cheap if you don't have good insurance.

FWIW --

I'm not on Eliquis, but (on advice of my cardiologist) take 81 mg aspirin every day. I also have some mild fibrillation, and take diltiazem (= Cardizem, I think) for that.

I haven't had any problems with bleeding after 15 years of injections -- I use a fine (31-gauge) needle and keep pressure on the injection point for 4 minutes. Occasional bruising happens, but disappears after a few days.

I think your urologist is being over-cautious, but I don't know enough to argue with him.

You might be able to switch from Eliquis to aspirin, and that might change your urologist's decision to not renew the Trimix.

Good luck -- you have my sympathy --

. Charles
