Orgovyx vs. Lupron?

I was approached for a long-term study of Orgovyx. Its possible the cost might be mitigated somewhat if I participate.

My question is what are the side-effects of Orgovyx reported compared to Lupron or Eligard?

TIA

Orgovyx may have fewer cardiovascular side effects.

My husband has taken both in the year he’s been on ADT, and he is vastly happier on Orgovyx. He says he feels more like himself (although obviously still has hot flashes and no libido) whereas when he takes Lupron his bones and joints ache and he just feels down and sorry for himself.

I am a very fit 59 year old G9 second BCR with positive pelvic node. I was on Orgovyx for 4 mos. I am off 4 weeks now with lingering hot flashes getting better. The hot flashes were terrible 10 per night very intense with little sleep. Another 10+ hot flashes during the day. Brain fog, nueropathy in hands and feet at night. Gained 10 lbs. Lifted weights 4X per week did help with fatigue. Significant strength loss due to testosterone <3. Had to stop running 2.5 months in switched to walking. Heart rate increased 10+ bpm running at same pace, little endurance and stamina with pain in legs. Fasting blood sugar up 15 points on Orgovyx. Depression and anger mood swings. Only had to shave once a week🙂 facial hair loss. Dr wanted me on Orgovyx for 24 months. I stopped after 4 mos…just not worth giving up the QOL for me.

I had the same side effects from Eligard except for the hot flashes weren’t too bad.

Forgot to add voracious appetite and extremely dry skin also.

I have been on Orgovyx and Nubeqa for 9 months without any noticeable side effects. However, I had no side effects with Lupron.

My PSA was .3, now it’s .04 for 6 months. My doctors at City of Hope and Cedars-Sinai are legendary.

Long journey since 2009 but I am happy with the QOL.

Good luck

Hi - how long were you on Lupron and what enabled the change to Orgo? My rad onc suggested Orgo/Nubeqa but my MO said there's no confirmation of those drugs being okay together(?) I just started Lupron 4 weeks ago and now getting hot flashes, Abiraterone to be added soon.

I did four months of Orgovyx and two one month Lupron shots. Many of the side effects are due to low testosterone, so that’s the same - hot flashes, loss of body hair, low energy, etc. I exercised a lot, which helped, though I “hit a wall” around the six month line. Brain fog and much lower energy. Fortunately that was at the end.

My T recovered in a few months. One reason I went with Orgovyx was that rapid T reduction and rapid recovery. I ran out of the free mfr program, so switched to Lupron. I had bad flu like aches and pains after the first shot. Less on the second. I would recommend Orgovyx if at all possible, though the $3000 a month cost is hard to justify. My Lupron shot was still $800 though.

I’ve been on Orgovyx for 2 yrs.. I stop the 15th of this mo.. Classic side effects from low T. U must exercise or the adt will make you weaker & weaker & then it works on your mind. U must stay on top of it physically & mentally. I did for the most part & it wasn’t that bad for me.

Now, I paid approximately 2k for my 1st 2 mos of Orgovyx. It’s very expensive but I called Orgovyx directly after those 2 mos. & they asked for my personal income, NOT my household income. I’m 67, retired with a pension & on SS. They said I qualified for free drug. I did have to requalify for the 2nd yr..

I am in my 10th month of only Orgovyx. Nothing else. I road bike four to five mornings a week (12 miles per) and have a physically active day job. I have a good diet, mostly fresh veggies, fruits and nuts. Occasional dish of pasta, fish or chicken. My side effects were nothing more than manageable bedtime hot flashes. My remedy was to stick a foot out from under the covers and the flash would cease almost immediately. However, lately, I have noticed mild brain fog, fatigue and joint pain. I believe these are the effects of living without testosterone for a length of time and not necessarily one drug's SE over another.. Easy for me to just power through it and accept it as the new normal. Since my PSA has been undetectable since I started the Orgo, I will stop taking it next March 2024, which will mark 18 months on the drug. Overall, a very tolerable experience.
