Sex and incontinence

It’s been a little more than two months since my radical prostatectomy so I tried to do some normal stuff.

I had a somewhat successful attempt at sex. My worst nightmare was present due the experience but, as I wrote, there was some success. Just no standing ovation. (Could I be anymore obvious and vague.

Anyway, my incontinence, up to that point, was going well and leakage was about once every two three days. After the aforementioned experience, incontinence started occurring five or six times a day. Sometimes more.

Anybody else experience this unhappy phenomenon? Something to worry about or just a normal part of the process.

My urologist surgeon didn’t seem to be concerned. Got the usual “it may take months” speech.

So, anyone have something to share?

Thanks

M

Even a little success at just 2 months is encouraging. Sometimes incontinence occurs at orgasm (climacturia). Keep up the penile rehab!

Thanks. Been doing my kagels but the leakage is daily. No climacturia at this point.

speaking of incontinence...., way too soon to lose a lot of sleep over it, BUT if it gets to the point where something needs to be done because pads no longer make sense, look up the term "Artificial Urinary Sphincter" (AUS) on the web, and talk to your doc about this device. Had one installed 4 years ago after major leakage and works great.

Possibly time to work on developing the "knack" of tightening the pelvic floor muscles just before doing things that can make you leak (sitting down/standing up lifting, coughing etc.f and relaxing after then. I did things like tense, sit, relax, wait 5 seconds, tense, stand, relax repeat 10 times. At first that was like pumping urine out, but it got better.

I think alcohol makes you more likely to leak too.

The incontinence can last for a few months. For me, about 2-3 months. Now, nearly 2 years postop, I am 98% "continent." If your bladder isn't empty during sex, it is possible to ejaculate urine at orgasm. That has happened to me. It is not unpleasant. In fact, it is nice to ejaculate SOMEthing occasionally.

I was grateful for underwear-for male incontinence. Keep up the Kegel exercise, the incontinence subsided in a short period. I recall being able to wear boxers again, and I jumped for joy. Patience is necessary, anxiety does not help. Keep it simple. Peace.
