Glucose Test - what to expect

Hi all! I have my 28 week midwife app tomorrow and have to take the 17 glucose tablets first etc. I’m just wondering what to expect after all those energy tabs? Am I going to be bouncing off the walls and then crashing in the afternoon? Xx

Hiya, for mine they made up a really sugary drink but I’m guessing it’s similar amounts. I felt pretty much normal but then I did crash later in the afternoon - had a headache and was very sleepy. I’d recommend taking the day off if it’s not a pain so that you can just watch telly and nap! Xx

I sadly did not find it a bouncing off the walls type test, a little energy in pregnancy would have been good 😂 you have to go on on an empty stomach, have your bloods taken, drink the glucose drink within a certain time frame and then sit quietly for two hours, then have your bloodd taken again. The first time I did it, you got toast and a cup of tea before you left, the second time was after covid and I had to sit in my car for the 2 hours, so just in case you don't get toast, I'd pack a drink and a snack for after you're finished. I also packed a blanket and hot water bottle so I didn't get cold in the car, if you can't spot on the waiting room. You're not allowed to go for a walk or pop to the shops, you have to sit do that the test is controlled. Good Luck 🍀
