Early scan , what to expect ?
Hi. I booked myself in for a private scan at 6 1/2 weeks ( FTM so I was just curious). It's pretty straight forward. They did the ultrasound on on my abdomen and you should be able to see the screen. The image is like any baby scan showing the uterus but at 6 1/2 weeks we could see a yolk sack and a small bean-like shape in the bottom of the uterus. The "bean" had a tiny fluttering part in the centre which was the heart beating. I'm not sure about NHS scans at this stage but our doctor turned on the sound so we could hear and they could measure the heart beats (very fast heart beats at that stage). Look on you tube for videos of scans at that stage. I hope everything's ok. I had sharp abdominal pains at 9 weeks and had to have a scan- I'm 38 weeks now!
Their preference is often to do an internal scan for early stages as they say they are more accurate. Certainly what they wanted to do for me when they were concerned about ectopic pregnancy, but I said I preferred not, so they tried an abdominal scan which worked fine, but I was 10 weeks.
You should.Be fine. X
I had an internal scan at both 6 and 8 weeks, at 6 weeks was just like a bean but at 8 weeks could see head and body and limbs starting to form. Saw the heart beat on both but didn't hear it x x
Thank you x
Yes as above you should see a little kidney bean shaped thing with a fluttering heart beat. They may well prefer to do an internal scan but honestly don't worry at all about this - mine is an IVF baby so I was having them 2-3 times a week, its not at all painful and the nurses do them very sensitively! We called it the dildocam
Had my scan everything's fine , seen my tiny baby and a little flicker which they said was the heartbeat so happy , thanks for all the help
