We’re about to start potty training. Our little boy was 2 in July, I don’t think he’s quite there yet but I’d like to get prepared.
Question is - there is a huge array of potty’s, some expensive, some much less so. Is there any difference?? I’m happy to pay a little more if it will make our life easier!
Also any other things we’ll need? I assume just a tonne of big boy pants and a lot of patience.

We got a pourty, which I've found better than a normal potty that we were given. It's got a spout at the back which makes emptying it much easier.
We didn't really take one with us out and about used toilets and held her over it, so might need something different with boys. My friend had one that folded away and would hold a wee or two for our and about.
You can also get training pants from companies like bambino mio or close parent, that catch a bit of wee while still letting them feel the wetness, which can help with clothes changes etc.
I think children are all so different though, my daughter was dry in the day by 2nd birthday and her mate who is a week older than her is only just dry now, so don't be disheartened if they don't take to it immediately.
Good luck 👍
I got a ikea potty and a seat that goes on the main toilet and a step stool to try both options out. of course my miss independent prefers to use the big toilet… I think really being prepared that every child is different and that gradual and gentle approaches over many months can work for some whereas all or nothing in a week for others can work!! Good luck
I’d recommend letting little one help with the potty choosing! My little girl got on much better with potty training after she chose her ladybird potty (a my carry potty) which is a travel potty so best for out and about too. Good luck!!xxx
Mine has been showing signs since she was 19 months old and now shes almost 2. I got her a potty which u can take compartnent out to pour away + clean comes with stickers they can decorate and for boys an aiming sticker u place inside potty. I have lots of potty books and a little caddy bag with wipe, pull ups, bags etc so thats her little set up in the toilet. She has never done a wee but she sits happily on potty talking about wee, reading book, likes to watch me wee etc but no wee or poo. It will take ages but i think the more u normalise it and make it an exercise the more it becomes familiar to them to do it. Just make it fun and if some days they dont want to then don't force them , but start again. We do it at every nappy change time, poos i cclean her standing up too as that associates her with standing up after wees and poos to be clenaed. Hopefully it will work soon when she turns two as her language has come along and understanding is better too. Good luck which ever steps you take.
Big tub of Bicarbonate of Soda. If there's an accident on the carpet, sofa etc., soak up the excess liquid with a cloth or tissue, then rub in bicarbonate of soda. Leave it to dry for a couple of hours or overnight then hoover up the powder. Stops things getting smelly. Good luck xxx
