Toddler Shoe Sizes?

I'm slightly confused about toddler shoes at the moment. My son was measured for his first shoes a few months ago in Clarks and was a 3.5G. I now have my own measurer and he's still the same size at 16 months old. What I'm wondering is whether normal shoe sizes are still fine to order? I.e. if I wanted to get him wellies, can I just go to primark/ matalan etc for instance and buy a standard size 4 or something??

Any help would be great. xx

Hi,

What I have found out that Clark’s sizes and other shop sizes not necessarily match. I ordered some shoes from Start Rite size 3.5 and also got from someone size 5 Clark’s and they look pretty much the same! I would check or make sure you can easily return. Plus another important factor is width to check. x

As with a lot of clothes and adult shoes, sizes in different shops/brands come up differently.

I find tesco/asda tend to match Clark's size but you have to judge the width by eye and shoe type. Eg. My eldest had slim feet, my second has wider - I buy different styles of shoe to match their foot shape.

I found that Matalan sizes vary depending on shoe type: My eldest recently measured as 8½ in Clarks but the size 8 matalan boots i ordered are like clown shoes on her. Using this info, I ordered her a pair of size 8 pumps, but they were too small!

We had a lot of shoes handed down from different people, so different shops, some from Australia where the sizing system is completely different.

The most reliable method I have found is to find a pair that fit or that they are growing out of and hold all others up against them to judge suitability.
