Just a query.... I had the mirena coil fitted on 20th January after being recommended by gynaecology for heavy bleeding. The first couple of weeks I had bleeding and cramping, then all seemed to settle.
Over the last week I have had light bleeding and some increased back pain which I have assumed to be a light period. Then yesterday, passed what looked like a clump of bloody tissue, quite large about the size of an egg.
Has anyone experienced this? I'm not sure if this is normal and to be expected. I assume it may be as I have read that the first 3 - 6 months can be unpredictable but wondered if I should mention this to my GP as I have an appointment with her next week? 🤔

I would mention it, there is no harm in it, but I do know that everyone experiences the mirena coil differently. They say it takes six months to really settle so you will probably be told to wait and see. Did you have a pregnancy test before it was put in? I only ask and I'm really sorry to, but what you described, the back pains and bleeding and tissue sounded quite like my miscarriage x
Thank you so much for your reply. I'll definitely mention it thank you. I went into hospital in February for planned surgery (although it got cancelled last minute!) And they did a pregnancy test. I assumed it was negative as no one came back to report anything 🤷
Hi poppy, I had the marina coil fitted for endometriosis in my early 20's. I would often pass blood clots, some pretty big. Not as big as a egg though. In the first year of having the foil I still had light bleeding, cramping and back ache. I've had coil fitted for 20 years (changed every 4 years) and eventually my periods stopped altogether. I would still have some cramping and backache and odd tiny spotting every now again. Definitely speak to your doctor as you may have undiagnosed endometriosis. Just as a side note in case you are worried, after 20 years I had the coil removed for good and fell pregnant 8 months later. I hope it settles down for you but the coil work wonders for me. Good luck
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I have been under gynaecology for a while and endometriosis was discussed but never fully investigated. The coil was advised by them for heavy erratic bleeding. I had prepared myself for things to be unsettled for the first 6 months but I have never passed the clumps of fleshy tissue before. I passed some more yesterday so I will chat to the GP. Thank you for your advice. I had wasting the doctors time if this is normal 🤦
