Hi lovely, I have low b12, I have an injection every 3 months and have been told to continue taking my injection throughout my pregnancy. Are you being treated with any form of replacement b12? You must feel so poorly if you're low and not treated x

I have low B12 and had to carry on with my injections through pregnancy with my little boy. I had a great pregnancy and my little boy was perfect. Make sure you talk to someone about getting something to boost your B12, you would feel a lot better. Take care x

Hey Red31, I also have low B12 and have the injections every 12 weeks. I was worried about taking the pregnancy vitamins as well as having the injections in case I got too much b12 but my GP said it was fine and to continue with the injections and take the vitamins - I'm 8 weeks pregnant. Try not to worry (I know this is easier said than done!), not everyone has the injections and if you're taking the vitamins that's a good start. Good luck! x

What your doctor says about using the other form of B12 - the more natural one: Methylcobalamin?

Have you had this?

I am very sure I have MTHFR mutation, but my GP would not send me to genetic testing - cost around £200- I will do it privately at some point ) I have done some research - and as many as 30-60% of the population can't properly use B9 (folic acid) and B12. Methyl form (folate & methylcolabamin) are suggested to use instead.

I'll ask about it to my midwife in my next appointment,if I can use it, but I am sure she'll be clueless...

Hope your situation will improve very quickly!x

I have homozygous mthfr and I was just recommended to take pregnancare Max by my consultant. This has the right form of folate. I was told 10% of Caucasian women will not process folic acid properly but was never told it would affect b12.

So glad to hear that some has been tested for MTHFR gene !!! Lucky you!!!

Here are few websites that I skimmed through and found info about MTHFR gene mutations and methylation process , which is impossible to happen properly for people like you (and me and others) just by using the normal supplement form.

To make it happen we need proper diet (which is totally impossible for me in my first-second trimester as I was so nauseous) or methyl form vitamins from group B vitamins.

Here are some links that helped me to understand that I need them. Most people who suffers from anemia should take B12, but often bodies don't recognize it so it does not make any difference, therefore best is to take the Methyl form of it.

Good luck in doing your research and fixing this deficiency!X

I was basically fine with pregnacare max, my daughter was born well and healthy. I have read quite a lot of opinion on the research on this and I think a lot of the opinion is scaremongering. I would advise not getting too hung up on it myself. However, thank you for the links, I will have a read.
