Hi so i have a low bmi of 16.3 and i am under the consultant however i had an appointment and the lady was very rude and she even rolled her eyes at me when i said I was 17 and she didn't weigh me to even check my weight which i thought was a bit odd considering thats what i was there to see her for all she kept saying was i need to put on weight and it was said very bluntly and snarky I'm just wondering if any one else has a low BMI and if you are weighed throughout pregnancy or not .

Hello my lovely, that’s unacceptable the way she made you felt and approached you. The Bmi is usually 18 to 25 and is ok it doesn’t Necessarily mean it’s really bad because it depends on your frame and height too. Being only 17 too your body is still growing. You get weighed hun when it’s your booking in appointment and height etc and some midwives do it throughout every appointment but some don’t . You just carry on looking after yourself and take your vitamins that I suggested for pregnant women. Xx

She's not my consultant she's my consultants registrar so hopefully i won't have to see her again and yea I was weighed during my booking appointment but just thought considering my appointment was about my weight and it was barely mentioned that it was a bit odd xx

See I am a bit confused of why i wasnt weighed considering thats why I'm under the consultant lol xx

I have a low BMI and was under consultant care, they were snarky, and sometimes down right rude, never weighed me past my first booking in appointment. I weighed myself weekly and tracked it on an app. I had the two extra growth scans they offered and was told my baby would be between 5 and 6 pounds at birth, he came at 39 weeks and was 7lb 1oz!

Luckily the midwife I had at towards the end (moved house at 5 months pregnant) was amazing and really supportive and didn't once make a comment on my weight.

As long as you know you are eating right during your pregnancy, screw what the consultant thinks, you still need to go to the appointments though otherwise they can really start to meddle. Happy to chat any time xx

Hi. I had low BMI too during pregnancy and was referred to a consultant. She as well was rude and pointless. I ignored her and just ate the best I could. I have always had a low BMI and low appetite. During pregnancy I had sickness so didn’t eat much. Sometimes I got weighed at Midwife appointments, sometimes not. My advice would be to eat things that are nutritional so that your baby is getting lots of goodness. I was always worried about having a small baby because I only put on 5kg throughout pregnancy. My baby was born 7lb 3oz (50th percentile) so even if you are small frame/weight babies can still grow at a normal rate. They take all the goodness from what you eat. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

Well how effin rude of this women, and unprofessional. So what if your 17 thats no reason to roll her eyes. Also the health of you and the child should be the utmost concern. Did she give any information leaflet or verbal advice about gaining weight or refer to dietian or nutritionalist? I would personally if concerned see your Gp and voice your concern seperatley about neing underweight.
