Low placenta

Hi all,

I had my 20 week scan last week and found out I’m having a baby girl (yay!) but also that I have a low placenta. The sonographer said it was nothing to worry about but I’d be invited back at 35 weeks to see if it had moved up. I have my midwife appointment next week so will talk about it then but, has anyone else had this happen with their pregnancy? I’ve heard if it stays low I’ll have to have a caesarian.

Thanks!

Hey, my placenta is also low, mines is completely covering birth canal.

My Midwife explained that 8 out of 10 times it will move.

I had a private scan at 28 weeks and mines hasn’t moved, my NHS scan is 32 weeks, if it’s still covering my Midwife said they’ll arrange a planned section but probably also arrange another scan around 36 weeks.

I think if your next appointment is 35 weeks then your placenta might be low, very close to cervix but not covering, so you might have a better chance of it moving as your pregnancy progresses.

Try not to worry, I know a couple of people who have had this and there placenta did move.

Congratulations on having a baby girl 💕 xxx

Hiya, congratulations 😊

It's very common hun, I was called back during my first pregnancy and it had moved- I think most do.

Currently 22 weeks with 2nd & had my scan 2 weeks ago. I was nearly asked to make another appointment as mine looked low again but she decided to send me for a wee as a full bladder can affect the position. After a wee it had moved well out of the way so was ok. Could be as simple as that.

But yes, if it's too low at 35 weeks a c section will be needed xx

Hello thank you for the advice! You try not to worry but your mind goes crazy sometimes. Hopefully my placenta moves too. If I have to have a caesarian I don’t mind because it’s the safest option, but as she’s my first I’d like to experience labour if I can xx

Hiya ,

Yes mine was low and stayed low so I was booked in for a caesarean at around 38 /39 weeks.

It was a fantastic experience nothing to worry about at all.

I’m glad to have given birth that way.

My little boy is 5 months now.

Congratulations and good luck 😀xx

Literally depends on how lownit is coming up to your due date. It may not be that low that it will cause problems but if it is you will have to have a c section
