Hi everyone..I hope you’re keeping well!

Just a query.I got blood results today and my HB levels have dropped from 107 to 91 in 2 months.I am coming up to 30 weeks.

Has anyone else had this issue and how did they treat your anaemia? I got an iron study done today to see what’s going on?

xx

Yes I think that’s what they’ll give me..hopefully will do the trick.Weird thing is I don’t feel tired and am out exercising everyday and feeling great!

Same. I didn’t have any symptoms at all which was odd

Yes it’s odd. When I had terrible morning sickness and wasn’t eating healthy my HB levels were normal. Now I’m eating fish, vegetable etc everyday they’ve dropped.

I’m vegetarian so they reckon that has something to do with it.The hospital will ring me tomorrow and see if I need tablets or a transfusion 😞

I think a lot of people how low iron at that stage. Fingers crossed you only have to have tablets

I had low HB and platelets throughout my pregnancy. I was absolutely shattered the whole time. I was prescribed Ferrous Fumurate iron tablets. I was supposed to take 3 a day but they didn’t agree with my stomach. Instead I drank 2 sachets of Spatone (iron water) mixed in a glass of orange juice and took 2 iron tablets. My HB went back up. Platelets still stayed low but bounced back after birth.

You can get Spatone from Tesco, Boots or Superdrug.

If you are a meat eater beef has a lot of iron. Follow a beef meal with a glass of orange juice as it helps the iron absorption. Sesame seeds and spinach are supposed to be high in iron too x

I’m vegetarian which probably doesn’t help but I eat lots of fish and vegetables to compensate.Il see what my blood work shows up.Hopefully a few iron tablets a day will do the job xx

my hb was 91 the day i was induced, it dropped to 69 after my c section (average blood loss in theatre) and i needed 2 blood transfusions and felt terrible. I was also on iron for 9 weeks post partum but it gave me vile side effects so switched to spatone on the unofficial advice of a midwife who said she would only take spatone not iron ferrous sulphate - it absorbs much better as a liquid. I would say, just make sure they keep an eye on your levels and i would personally take spatone now. Best of luck!!
