I’m new to this group. Tomorrow I’ll be 6 weeks pregnant with my first following IVF. I’ve come across some articles recently recommending an omega 3 supplement for brain development. Are any of you taking one? If so, is there a specific brand you recommend?
Thank you.

I don't think it particularly matters on a brand to take. I took omega 3 throughout pregnancy and the breastfeeding pregnacare tablets also give an omega 3 supplement so I imagine it's good to take. Even if it does nothing for the baby it's really good for you 😊 xx
I recognise you from the FN board. Congratulations on moving over here!
My GP told me to take them and I just use the Aldi ones. Think they were only like £1. I was already taking folic acid and vitamin D separately so just added them in x
Yes I am taking Bump&Glory (1x day) which was recommended by my nutritionist. Fish oil comes in very different quality and this consists only of fish safe in pregnancy too. I used to love eating mackerel, salmon and other oily fish daily — but really went off it with my nausea. So I’m glad I have the supplement daily.
I also take the Prenatal vitamin (from Pure Synergy) - this has a little bit of iron but not so much as the previous which made me really constipated. I am also taking a probiotic (culturelle) and magnesium (virudian). To keep me regular, i also take a physilium husk capsule in the morning and evening (Therapeutico from Amazon) - but I started with 1 capsule first to get used to and need to drink lots of water.
My appetite has really changed since I got pregnant and the normal healthy things like vegetables and broths I would typically eat (containing vitamins and fibre) I have gone off sadly - I just want to eat Müller corner yoghurt and rye bread with apricot jam and fruits... 🙄
They only have good quality stuff - I would not trust Boots/ Holland and Barrats etc for the bioavailable vitamin contents (according to my nutritionist anyways)
Welcome Foodie123, you will recognise a lot of people here. I take it but within a pregnancy support pill. You can take fish oil but avoid cod liver oil. Key clue is avoid liver of any kind. No pate etc.
Yes indeedy! It's most important in first and third trimesters as that is when baby's brain and nervous system develops the most. Important to have fish oil not cod liver oil, and I recommend finding one with the highest dha level you can find. Research says you need minimum of 300 dha a day in these trimesters, but optimal is 600-900. That's why a high dose tablet is best, to avoid having to take loads! I'm also supplementing Choline (450mg) which is also crucial for brain development, it's a required prenatal vitamin in the US but not mentioned in the UK for some strange reason!
I took pregnacare max but then the pregnancy nausea took over and I couldn’t take the fish oil capsules for the majority of my pregnancy as they made me feel sick!
