Dear mommy's,i am first time mom; my 3 week old baby boy has a pretty bad rash on his genital area,it has gotten a lil better but part of it is still raw/open and i can tell it hurts him,i have been letting his butt air dry after every diaper change then i put diaper cream, but i want to know if i can use neosporin for the open part of it? Please suggest me any other antibiotic ?

I’ve never used an antibiotic for nappy rash? It’s not a bacterial infection, it’s an irritation. I may be completely wrong here! The best solution for mine at that age was to leave her nappy free for long periods of the day to give her a good airing! 😂 when she was in a nappy I would change it regularly including at night. I would buy pampers absorbent mats and pop her on there on her play mat/floor etc with no nappy cream on. Someone told me that animal training mats from pet shops are cheaper! Here’s what I mean boots.com/pampers-change-ma...

Hope this helps. Someone else may be able to advise if antibiotics help. X

I would suggest seeing your paediatrician /gp (assume you're American) if thatbad... in general my girls only get rash when teething but goes away in a couple of days. I stick to creams like methanium and pseudocream however babies can commonly develop fungal infections in the nappy area as it's moist so might need an antifungal like miconazole.

I’d also suggest if you’re using baby wipes to stop and use cotton wool and warm water instead. Just make sure no fibers get caught up on the sore part.

Hi darling, I hope your little one rash will soon disappear. Follow Bexis advice. I would add that you need to keep the area clean and dry and use a suitable nappy cream as a barrier. My little one has never experienced nappy rash however I use bepanthen at every change. Sudocream I found that gave my little one a rash (not nappy rash)

If you don’t want to use cotton wool and warm water get sensitive wipes for me boots own brand is much better as the wipes are soft (pampers I found them to rough) you can always test them on your face and neck to check how you will react... water wipes are somehow stinging.

Give two days and if gets worse take your little one to be. Checked by your doctor.

Sorry forgot to add...

I wouldn’t recommend to use talc powder as it will dry the skin and can make the wounds worst.

Good luck and keeps us updated and congratulations.

Thank you so much dear..You're so sweet, I'm trying my best to keep it clean and dry but it's still raw and sore i can feel the pain whenever i change the nappy. I feel bad myself since it's my fault that i used powder unknowingly 😢😢😢

No darling, don’t stress yourself you are doing the best you can. You use powder beliving that will do him good. I also made that mistake on my baby’s neck. She had a terrible rash there. I use the powder and got worst. Took her to the dr and he told me to never use talc as it makes it worst. As the rash is the genital area and neck are the same. It’s bacteria that lives there as the skin doesn’t get that much air and gets constantly wet. Stated using zinc and Castor oil there and it worked wonders.

(Btw I did put nappy rash cream bepanthen there too as my sister recommended but it made it worse... see we are here to try things out and keep our fingers crossed for them to work, also what might work for one baby does not necessarily works for another)

Yes dear i tried diaper cream as a barrier though but then still it's raw and open. You know i cannot let him in open air also since it's very cold here. I didn't go to see the doctor also ; thinking that it will better after few days. This days my baby cry often and wake frequently due to the pain i think. I am a bad mom you know, 😴😢😢😵

No you are not, you are doing the best you can. Ok I am going to tell you how I take care of my baby’s neck as I am assuming they were pretty much the same... raw open...

since it’s very difficult to let the zone air out I do the following after a bath I make sure I clean it properly with soap (yes even when it was raw open as we need to kill the bacteria) then I pat dry the zone very gently with a clean muslin. Once it’s dry I put lots of cream gently. Then 4 ~ 5 times a day I will clean the zone with plain water with cotton wool and pat dry with the muslin and again cream. I saw a huge improvement by the next day and within 3 to 4 days it was completely gone. Now I dated to get into the habit of doing it every day as my baby is a bit chubby has rolls in her neck so if I don’t do it it develops again thanks to all the drawling as she is teething and sweat.

Take the idea of being a bad mother cause if you were you would not be here consulting other mums. Nappy rash is very common and if you are giving the right guidelines it will disappear in a couple of days.

I know it’s a bit cold but take your little one for a little stroll and buy bepanthen I assure you you won’t regret it is a very good nappy cream. I had recommended to a friend who was using a different brand and her little one developed a rash again within 2-3 days the rash was gone

Baby soap. Don’t use adults one... for me the best is from child’s farm the one that’s for sensitive and eczema prone skin as my little one unfortunately like me has eczema

Don't blame yourself ... as mentioned eczema is not common on genitals, also even if it turns out to be eczema it's not your fault... it's not something you can prevent

You know if i have not used powder..it maynot be that worse. .its all my fault. 😢😴

Don’t worry to much. And certainly don’t go around the internet searching Dr google it might confuse you further. Eczema is not often found on genitals in babies try to follow what we have discuss before and change his nappy regularly or as soon as he wet himself. Clean, dry and put nappy cream only and you will see an improvement within two days and if it doesn’t happen call your GP and have him checked.

Dear my baby has got jaundice and admitted in neonatal(hospital ) since yesterday. He is keeping under phototherapy machine. And due to heat i think the rushes are drying up. Thanks for your sincere concern. 😘😚

Basically 4 to 5 days if the bilirubin level is too high. Tomorrow doc will take his blood sample to check the bilirubin, after the result only i will confirm.
